Title: membership cards
Post by: Daniel on February 23, 2010, 05:30:30 AM
I renewed my membership this month and received my new card. My new card is not as dark in colour as my old one and doesn't have a grade on it, should I contact membership services, use my chain of command as trained, or leave it be.

Same with my card. I think that's just how they make them now. Bummer. I liked having my grade on there.

I don't know.  It might be a forgery and someone might have your REAL membership card and is using it to falsely get discounts at Starbucks and Hertz!   ;)

It should at least say, "Cadet" on it.  It was a bit odd when they were shipping cadets new ones every time they got promoted.

Not wanting to turn this into a "benefits" thread, there are the officially recognized benefits of membership.  These are agreements we have with different vendors and companies to give us a discount on their product or service.  You can find these here. (http://www.gocivilairpatrol.com/html/benefits.htm)

Then there are the discounts that are offered or given by local places, chains, etc.  A lot of times if you happen to be in uniform, restaurants, etc will end up offering a discount.  The local Starbucks gives a free cup of coffee to anyone that is in uniform.  They said they don't care if it's military, police, fire, EMS, Auxies, CAP or the UPS driver.  You're wearing a uniform?  Have a free cup of coffee.

But, just remember, if you're asking if they have discounts for CAP members, don't get angry if they don't and don't present yourself as something you aren't.  Otherwise, have fun!

The cost of potentially making a new card every two months for 35,000 cadets is prohibitive. One that says "Cadet" works just as well. Those who need to know your grade should be able to read it off your collar or shoulder.
