Title: Cessna 337 Crash
Post by: DG on February 17, 2010, 04:43:39 PM
Did anybody find out what might have been the cause of the Cessna 337 crash at Monmouth Executive?

Nope: bad week for Cessna twins.  A 310 is reported to have crashed just north of the Palo Alto, Ca airport this morning: seem to remember three fatalities.  The report opined that they hit some wires and went into the yard next to a house.  Lots of high tension wires in the vicinity.

I believe they were high tension.  I have some friends in the Palo Alto squadron and they said that most the city lost power.

Latest info that I got was that the runway viz was one eighth mile with ceiling less than 100 ft.  AC made a slight left turn instead of the required right turn to go out over the bay and apparently hit a high tension line tower or the attached wires.  Lots of speculation right now: you could make a case that there was an engine issue which caused the incorrect turn and the lack of adequate climb.

Lets allow the experts and the folks on the scene to figure out what happened.

Here's the NTSB page for accident investigations.  The information about that crash is still preliminary, they'll release the final report within a year or so.
