Title: Review Board Scores

I just did my first review board and got 3 very goods and 1 satisfactory
it goes from: unsatisfactory to
                     satisfactory to
                     very good to
                     excellent

What did all of you get on your first review board? :)

They should IMHO, as not all cadets who pass all the tests are ready to be promoted.

Well, if I could remember, I would tell you! :p Good job though - review boards are a good way to check up on your progress: never slight them. I have served on dozens upon dozens of boards and I always enjoy seeing cadets come in with a positive attitude, willing to learn from experience. Keep it up!

That's why the Commander and/or Deputy Commander has to use a little judgement before they sign the Form 52-X.
If the cadet is not ready, then don't sign. Simple isn't it.

We do boards in my squadron, but it's not just for promotions.

When cadets apply for Encampment Staff positions, NCSA's, scholarships, etc. they usually have to face a board.
Having our cadets do promotion boards gets them experience in dealing with review boards so when they do go before a board for encampment or whatever it's not a new experience.

YMMV, but it works for us.

No, but it can be an objective review of the cadet, as well as developing older cadets leadership skilss in evaluations.  It is the cadets program, not mijne, I just mentor and guide.  I take charge when I have to, not when I want to.

If memory serves me correctly, while you are right, in saying that a review board is not necessary for promotion it is required once per phase.

If memory serves me correctly, while you are right, in saying that a review board is not necessary for promotion it is required once per phase.
No....a CAPF 50 is required once per phase....but not a "promotion board".

While often a board is held to do the CAPF50 it is not necessary.

So whats your practice? Do you pre-fill in the information and:
- Hand them out?
- Sit down with the cadet and explain the pre-filled form?
- etc??

* Just curious because we hold a board each phase at the minimum... 
--- Sometimes time is a factor so a review of the reg may be in order for us and then establishing a plan that will allow more effective and consistent time use.

UPDATE: I did my second review board and I got 3 excellents and 1 very good  ;D
               RB's are pretty great

Agreed.  However, there are more reasons than this to use promotion boards. 

Perhaps the greatest reason to use promotion boards is that they provide a forum for these future leaders to begin developing interview skills that are valuable even outside of CAP.   It teaches them to prepare, think on their feet, and present themselves with poise.  Likewise, it allows board members to practice the skills used in the art of interviewing.

Promotion boards are an invaluable part of the toolkit, IMO.

P.S.  Congrats to vorter.  Keep up the good work and remember, the boards will (or at least they should) become progressively more challenging.
