NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS – Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters will be closed Friday in anticipation of travel difficulties caused by snow, with the National Weather Service placing central Alabama under a winter storm warning through the afternoon and forecasting 3-5 inches' accumulation. .

Offices are also scheduled to be closed Monday for Washington's Birthday. Regular office hours should resume at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Well played, NHQ, well played...

3-5 inches...

That's not even enough for me to bother with the snow blower.  Shovel it and move on

IceNine, that works if you live in an area where they actually have snow shovels. In Alabama, even ice scrapers are rare. The problem with snow in the south is that they are not equipped for snow removal.

Perhaps a garden shovel would work though.  :)

They're not wimping out...they're just...ummmm...demonstrating CAP's commitment to safety?

I will cut them a little slack...even the DC area goes into mass hysteria over 3-5 inches.  Imagine what it was like here a week ago before the back to back blizzards hit.  Grocery stores were being totally emptied daily for a week leading up to it.

Well Monday is a Federal Holiday, and the Base usually shuts down on the Friday before the holiday to give federal employees a 4 day weekend.

Just come out and say "we are taking a four day weekend!

I know this is a joke, but I hope you know the difference between weather and climate...

Since the HQ is located on Maxwell AFB, it;s the Base Commander who determines that they close down. I'm sure there's an "Only mission essential personnel are to report for duty" order out there.

^Heck when I want to do training for my Squadron over a Federal holiday weekend, I have to not only get the Base Commanders signature, but go to Security Forces, and then to the Command Post with a bunch of signatures on an Air Force Form.

Plus side to training on base during a four day weekend.....billeting lets us stay for free.  (then again my wife is the Services Squadron Commander!)

In case she reads this (she is on here all the time even during work)......I will be home all day on the 14th and I have a surprise.   :-*

Just got done cleaning about 6" off the CAP airplane in Jackson MS, and it's still coming down pretty good, supposed to last until around 1400.  Had the plane sitting tail down when I got in from the house.  My wife is the Wing Admin for MS, and I'm off today, so I drove her in, we get to HQ and there's an email about CAP snow day... grrr.  Guess I'll get some work done around HQ anyway...

Yes I do. However I believe that it's the global warming hysteria that's the real joke...

Ask the folks at the Canadian Olympic venues, where there's no snow and it is raining.

New England: 41 degrees and sunny yesterday.. Lets watch the snow melt.  (Wednesday's "storm" that was supposed to bring up to 8 inches, then was scaled back to 4-6", turned into "a dusting that didn't even stick.")

I'm in Delaware; we got 25" with the first East Coast blizzard then 4 days later we got 18" from blizzard #2.  Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning the weather wizards are predicting another 4-8".  Even though I grew up in New England and am very used to snow...enough already!!!
