I'm on the drill team and help out with color guard for my squadron, and the CG is doing several events for a banquet next weekend. The first thing will be posting rifle guards outside of the hallway of the banquet, and nobody at my squadron is sure what position to put the guards at. We've talked about putting them at right shoulder arms or attention, but I honestly don't know where to look to find an answer for this. What's the proper procedure here? What exactly are the guards supposed to do?
They arent really supposed to do anything.Its more ceremonial than anything else. usualy when you havbe guards posted at a door, they are at order arms. The only time you really want to be at right shoulde rarms in when you are preparing to move.
I'd suggest you have some sort of plan for relieving them every ten or fifteen minutes, preferably with some ceremonial movements.
