Title: Weather Prognostic Chart
Post by: Flying Pig on January 25, 2010, 09:53:43 PM
On  Prog Charts, why does the latest surface analysis chart not show rain, snow, etc?  Where as the 12, 24, 36 and 48 do.

Good question.

Because you can get that info from METAR's?

I'd say the answer is that you have the Surface Features on the current chart, Surface Analysis (This shows fronts and current conditions for selected loctions), Radar Summary and a couple of others for the current conditions.  Remember that much of this is still in the old school format when we didn't have the internet to transmit the data and stuff was sent by fax or other means that didn't lend itself to large amounts of data.

Yeah, I know its on other charts.  I was just wondering if there was a specific reason why its not on the latest surface analysis.  I am helping a guy study for his commercial.  It came up.
