CAP OFFICERS, ALSO SERVING WITH USAC, LEAD ARMY CADETS THROUGH CADET PATHFINDER COURSE
CAPTALKers - Both 1LT Lankford and OC Caliguiri are currently active members of the CAP.
U.S. Army Cadets from as far as Texas, Florida and New York City traveled to the National Cadet Training Center (NCTC) in Millersburg, Kentucky to attend Phase I of the U.S. Army Cadet Corps' (USAC) Cadet Pathfinder Course held from 26 Dec 09 - 3 Jan 10. Photos can be found at:

The 18 males and one female who graduated are the first Cadets to attend Winter Training at the NCTC. USAC purchased the former Millersburg Military Institute campus to become the NCTC in September, 2008. A total of 452 Cadets from 32 states and seven countries trained at the NCTC during the summer of 2009. In excess of 600 are expected in 2010.
The Cadet Pathfinder Course included advanced land navigation, cold weather survival, leadership and other aspects of soldiering. The platoon conducted three nights in the field, starting at the NCTC on the first night, and moving on to more advanced training at a 500+ acre training site provided to USAC by Blue Licks State Park.
1LT David Lankford, USAC (MAJ, CAP) of Houston, Texas was the Platoon Leader. He was assisted by OC Laurelen Caliguiri, USAC (1st Lt, CAP) of Lexington, Kentucky. The Platoon Sergeant was C/SSG Jordan of Army Cadets of Fort Rucker.
The U.S. Army Cadet Corps is an Army-oriented career exploration program for young men and women age 12-18. USAC units use an Army Reserve training model, with Unit Training Assemblies conducted monthly, and 2-6 weeks of training at the NCTC during the summer. Detailed information on the U.S. Army Cadet Corps can be found at http://www.goarmycadets.com .
We're receptive to opening our various courses to CAP personnel; however, at this point, the answer is no. CAP Cadets, in their CAP capacity, would not be insured during any of our courses, as we don't yet have a finalized MOU with CAP. We also need to have formalized reciprocity IRT CPPT so that USAC personnel can supervise CAP personnel and vice versa.
I'd be receptive to opening ten slots for the Cadet Pathfinder Course. We've also talked about offering slots for our nine-day Officer Candidate School (adults) and three-week Basic Leader Course (Cadets) to CAP personnel. In turn, USAC personnel would be able to attend some applicable CAP courses.
It's in been the works and, hopefully, will be in place by next winter.
