So my squadron commander has suggested that I apply for Cadet Of The Year at special acts in Florida wing. Can anyone tell me what its like? Ive looked at all the paerwork needed and Im working on getting it done, but Id really appreciate any input from someone else.
They want you to apply for it? Isnt that somthing your commander should put you in for? It almost seems along the lines of putting yourself in for a medal.
Nothing against you. If they re telling you, than I would take that as a compliment.

I've been asked to detail my accomplishments for my commander to write up awards before.

It must be a Florida Wing thing. In 1991, my senior year, I was asked by my squadron commander to put together a "Phase III Cadet of Year" packet to submit. The only thing he did was write a letter of recommendation on my behalf. I had to get 2 other letters, my school transcripts and write a letter myself.
Like you, I didn't think the nominee should be doing the leg work for his own [potential] award.
No, I didn't get it.

FLWG makes you apply for it, and attend some special selection boards held during the wing NCSA selection boards... Yeah, it's weird...
