After a cadets membership has expired, is the any type of grace period where they can still participate or until they renew or are they done the day it expires?

They are done the day it expires.

The grace period only provides a means to retain grade and ratings, not to allow for participation.

4-2. Renewal Period. The membership renewal period is 60 days prior and 90 days following the membership expiration date. Additionally, upon acceptance by the unit and higher headquarters, senior members may late renew at any time within 2 years of the membership expiration date by paying retroactive dues. The renewal period following the membership expiration date is an administrative convenience only. This is not a "grace" period. An individual is not a CAP member and is not authorized to participate in CAP activities after the membership expiration date until renewal dues are accepted by National Headquarters for another membership year. a. Cadets not renewing within 90 days following their membership expiration date have the option of rejoining (through their unit of assignment providing they still meet the initial membership eligibility criteria), or late renewing. Late renewals will be accepted up to 180 days from the expiration date and are subject to acceptance by the unit and higher headquarters and payment of retroactive membership dues. 1) Cadets rejoining after a break in service will be credited with previous accomplishments as evidenced in their personnel files. 2) In those cases where National Headquarters accepts a late membership renewal that is not acceptable to the member's unit or intermediate headquarters, the unit concerned will notify National Headquarters and the membership will be declared null and void, and membership dues refunded.

You are either a member or not a member. National actually sends out renewal notices 90 days in advance of expiration, and again about 30 days out. In addition your squadron DP, DCC, and commander should also be reviewing the membership reports to see who's due and who's late. I've actually had the guilty pleasure as a Wing DP of asking the MAWG Wing Commander who he wanted to appoint to the commands where the current CC's had not renewed.

Commander's are or should be getting a monthly email of the expiration report.

I know I do.

I do too.  The question was asked in regards to some cadets families who ran into some hard times suddenly.  Thanks.

In addition, you can run the report through the cadet promotion utility.  They even added the cadet's phone number to the report after someone asked them nicely.

If you don't get the Expiration printout, the MML has the same information!
