Title: Composite Squadron Commander's Cartoon

After a two year hiatus, behold...

A cartoon showing just what it is like to command a Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron. Based on fact and real occurrences, the punchline will make any one time commander cringe.

Hope you like it.

Dedicated to Bill Breeze who found my use of downtime arranging popular Mariachi songs to "ragtime" was wasteful.

Knew I'd get blamed for something today. Now it's harassing Mariachi Musician

For me, I'd say from 0730 on. Haven't had the fun of a 0400 hour ELT call yet.

When I was in Alaska, my NCOIC allowed me to leave work in the afternoon a couple times for ELT searches. Had a few of my coworkers that thought I was slacking. Our commander was a retired Major that knew how to deal with that though. He sent letters of appreciation for me and my NCOIC. A few weeks later, a couple guys in the section joined.

All in all, it seems pretty accurate to me.

That is about as true as it gets.

Out of curiosity, was it your members calling you lazy or the group commander?  Hard to believe either.

Sigh. Took command of a composite squadron in May. Have an SUI in November. How do you think I feel?

Only one inaccuracy in the cartoon:  when the squadron CC was facing his unit, there wasn't a bull's eye on his back.  ;D

Yep, been called at 0400, been chewed out by the next echelon up, wedged in CAP stuff between work and everything else.  BTW, the possible divorce decree is only about 2 degrees off.  I think my wife was happier than I was when I had my change of command.

But all-in-all, there's no better job in CAP than being a squadron commander.
