According to comedian Bill Maher of HBO, CAP is now under the control of the Department of Homeland Security. I had taped his Friday show and watched it today and in the course of interviewing DHS secretary he was listing agencies she oversees and he included "Civil Air Patrol."
Nice to get the national publicity, but obviously he got his facts wrong.
I didn't realize that Bill Maher was the official source of information for any agency, especially the DHS or CAP.
should I have included the word "sarcasm" in the thread title?

Hey why not... he is after all an official source too many Americans consult to make "informed" voting decisions.
Just saw on the WSJ site: she's supposed to make a speech on HLS stuffs

Bill Maher actually knows something about CAP? I'm surprised.
The fact that he knows ANYTHING, even if it is wrong, shocks me.
Im sure it was on a list that some college intern put together prior to the show. So I wouldnt be to impressed.
This move to DHS previously was reported on AVWeb.
On April 1.
Maybe next April 1 they'll assign us to Starfleet. ;)

Maybe I should get one.
Then we can get started on the transporter and warp drive technology.
CAP can easily convert our planes into space ships.
No we won't get space ships. We'll just spend eons debating Starfleet uniform regs.

Not much to debate there, sadly i believe the Starfleet wannabees probably have their ducks in a row. A "Guide to the Uniforms of Star Trek" would likely be easier to understand and more concise than our own 39-1.

I would normally quip that he probably only knows how to read the cue cards, however, Maher is a pretty smart guy, able to hold his own in a debate and actually has some insight from time to time.

Except that he is usually as accurate as the above CAP/DHS comment. The man is an idiot IMO. He makes a living tearing down/smearing those who don't agree, without merit of the facts.
Other than that, he's a real peach! ;D
