Title: New FEMA SAR course
Post by: proveritas on July 27, 2009, 04:42:08 PM
I got a chuckle out of this one...

FEMA's new online SAR course mentions Civil Air Patrol as performing most inland aerial SAR functions in the US. yadda. yadda. yadda. There's a standard CAP stock photo...and then a couple of F-22's doing maneuvers over a major urban area.

http://emilms.fema.gov/IS809/ESF0901130.htm (watch the slide show)

Gotta love FEMA.  ;)

Where they show the fighters they are talking about how the AFRCC oversees CAP operations and I suppose they are meant to represent the AF, but it is a little misleading.

RiverAux, of course they are, but it was amusing anyway. I'm just wondering when WE get F-22s. ;)

Angus, the course is IS 809 Emergency Support Function (ESF) #9 – Search and Rescue available at http://training.fema.gov/IS/crslist.asp for free as always. Covers the various SAR orgs -- worth taking if you have a spare 30 min. or so.

The tail code FF on the F-22's shown signifies that they are from Langley AFB.  That segment talks about the AFRCC being at Langley.  Someone probably did a Google search for Langley and found that photo.

This course has been available for awhile.  It's not exactly new.

Gotta love one of our very own South Dakota AC over Rushmore.  We have gotten a lot of mileage out of that photo..  Looks like we were able to find Mt. Rushmore anyway..

Why is it when anyone mentions CAP in tone as a legitamte agency we get a lot of 'that's funny" sort of comments....but if anyone leave CAP out of some sweeping announcment we get a bunch of "what don't they thingk we are worthy of mention".
