Title: I won the AFA grant and I'm going to start a rocket program.
Post by: davidsinn on July 27, 2009, 04:16:23 PM
But first I have a few questions:

For the Titan stage it lists as options
  Commercial model
  Scale model
The OWL doesn't state either/or like the other two stages, must the cadet do both?

For the Saturn stage it lists a glider payload as an option
Would this model (http://drzooch.com/spaceshuttle.html) count for both the Titan scale requirement and the Saturn glider requirement or must they be different rockets?

For reference the CAP rocket program (http://members.gocivilairpatrol.com/media/cms/Complete_Guide_F4ED514D80382.pdf)

I just answered my first question by reading 50-20. The answer is yes they need to do both options.

The cadet is required to build two rockets in this stage (as presented in the Civil Air Patrol Model Rocketry program book).

Congrats on winning the grant, I was pushing our cadets to apply, but alas, they 'forgot'.  :( We were planning to use it for a field trip to an aviation museum a few hours away...

Good luck with your rocketry program!

We also got a grant from the AFA and will be using it for off setting the costs for our cadet to stay aboard the USS Hornet.

That would be awesome. Too bad the nearest carrier is the Fighting "I" in New York.

I too was awarded an AFA grant earlier this year in January and would encourage you (when you complete your model rocketry program) to write it up and share it with your fellow colleagues...
