Hey for those of you that went and participated at the NER SARCOMP, what did you think about it?
For me, I know that it has been one of the best training experiences I've had in a while and it had several unique experiences, from the wilderness rescue to the ground to air signals we don't usually practice here on long island. The Elt search in my opinion was way too easy, we drove basically right to it, and the main reason why it took us the 14 minutes to drive to it, find it, and get back to the judge, is because of the 30 mph speed limit. The search line event was pretty decent, they gave us an hour for a decent sized area, much smaller then the originally planned area (2000 feet by 2000!) and it included some CISM questions.
The land nav and written test were both canceled, I hadn't heard a reason why, so I can't really comment on them.
Anyways they only gave out the top three teams in each section of the comp and the overall winner, but here is what I remember of the rankings:
Overall: 1st Place, NHWg
2nd Place,
3rd Place, NYWg
ICS : 1st Place, NHWg
2nd Place,
3rd Place, NJWg
Air Ops: 1st Place, NHWg
2nd Place, CTWg
3rd Place, NYWg
Ground Ops: 1st Place, PAWg
2nd Place,
3rd Place, CTWg
I know CT was 2nd in air ops and third in ground ops. If they were smart enough to plan it on a different time besides memorial day; I would of went.
NJ took 3rd for IC
Thanks for those, I took off PA for overall because now I'm not too sure if they got 2nd
Yea, NER for the past few years or so has been doing the NCC on memorial day weekend and since this year they were doing SARCCOMP too, it was easier to get all of it together I think. I heard talk of changing it but if they can change it, that'd be awesome........ and did you mean memorial day instead of labor day? Labor day is in September, right?
Memorial Day weekend was chosen because of facility availability @ Westover -- there is apparently no reserve training scheduled, so billeting and classrooms and so forth are available

Please check your FULL facts before posting. It was a composite team of CT and MA. MAWG did most of those air sorties, half of the people involved in the Air Ops from MAWG were part of the 1st place Air Team that MAWG sent in 2007.
Good to see that there is still a SARCOMP somewhere going on. Some of the best times I had in CAP were the Region and National SARCOMPS that I participated in during the 80's.
I think there are only three or four of us in the Wing that are still active who have our NatSarComp patches. It was a great learning experience see how others did things and then at the end of the Comp trading ideas.
Good show!
Final results, for those that are interested.
1st Place: NHWG
2nd : PAWG
3rd : NYWG
I thought the SARCOMP was very successful and think it would be great if all the regions did something like this.
I'm pretty sure the blank second place for GT is also NHWG.
Yeah, I'll definitely be going to the next couple of NER SARCOMPs, and if there is a National one, that'd be amazing to go to too.
For if there is an admin around, can you edit my post to reflect those ranking that I missed? I can't fix because it was edited by Mike. Thanks!
