Title: Restored CAP-type Aircraft
Post by: ol'fido on May 27, 2009, 02:46:18 AM
Does anyone know of any aircraft that have been restored in CAP markings.  Piper Cubs, 0-1 Birddogs, Tripacers, T-34s, etc. If you know of any and/or can provide pictures I would appreciate it.  I'm not looking for specific aircraft that have served with CAP but any of the type that may have been restored in period appropriate markings.

This will get you some things...

The T-34A's that I remember predominately looked close to this one:

Photo from 1981 by Minnesota Wing member, Lt Col Gary Chambers.

The wing's name and small corprate seal was under the window. In particular, I remember seeing either a Wisconsin or Michigan Wing T-34A with little find ribbons stuck on the side in front of the left wing like its "kill" history.

Some military "hand-me-downs" were simply striped of their USAF, Navy or Marine colors, and left blank without a new paint job.

My former squadron commander brought a Luscome that had been a CAP aircraft back in the 50's.
He plans to restore it back to it's CAP markings. Of course that may be a while, he brought it as a "basket case" fixer-upper.
