Title: Points of Distribution Training
Post by: RiverAux on May 04, 2009, 12:23:33 AM
Here is an interesting new FEMA course that could be of use to CAP members responding to disasters on the ground.

http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is26.asp

IS-26 Guide to Points of Distribution
Course Overview
This guide was developed to support the Points of Distribution (POD) overview video and provide an in depth look into the planning, operations, and demobilization stages of a POD mission. The lessons detail the staffing and procedures any state will need to plan for, execute, and shut down POD operations. The guide also includes key lessons such as safety, equipment, and resource accountability and informs the reader about the "Adopt a POD" program being used by the state of Washington.

Course Objectives
By the end of reading this Guide you will be able to:

Describe Points of Distribution
Explain how Points of Distribution are set up and operated
Understand how to supervise a Point of Distribution Staff

Thanks!  Before any FEMA course, I take the test to see what I need to pay attention to, but for some reason I passed the test!  Woo-HOO.

I did go back and look at some of the course.....a MONKEY can run a POD.   :D

Granted "a MONKEY can run a POD"

I would suggest that folks read the Planning Assumptions and Considerations and the Concept of Operations, Participation from organizations, AND Draft Agreement

Those will be the sticking points and MAY require a liitle more paying attention to detail than a CAP online course.....

If CAP is worried about its own paperwork  (paper vs computer) The POD could be using both or paper only until things get set up.

Sure I can see where a MONKEY can do it........but beware of the pitfalls

namely paperwork, supervision and ACCOUNTABILITY

Look again, this is not a CAP course.

It is THE FEMA course available online for this task.

Bill

I readily understand it is

Been on the site for a number of years before this

I am reiterating that CAP will want to get involved with this as an additional mission and while I have been on a number of disasters in midwestern States that DID NOT get the attention such as Katrina or others.......

I was just making the facts known that "any MONKEY can run a POD" may or may not be the attitude to take...I certainly know that ACE doesn't think it's a joke...............
