I think I've seen myself in there once or twice, but I can't remember where or when.

I've found it's hard NOT to see people I know from either CAPTalk or CadetStuff in the Volunteer these days.

Capt. Scott Orr and myself will be featured in the upcoming Volunteer. We did a Project About Flight 217. The Largest Single Mission Save in CAP History. Lt. Eric Schwarm also contributed to our efforts. All of these people are CAP Talkers;

All in all there were about 20 stories statewide regarding this effort. Some were about the rescue, some were about a 30 anniversary commemoration, and some were about the unveiling of the museum exhibit.

For the most part this rescue had been forgotten and was lost to time. Almost all of the rescuers have since left CAP. None of the survivors were in contact with one another. So we started from scratch. We tracked people down. We got the straight scoop -- and in that gave CAP the full credit that the ground team deserved.

It is a great story. Scott Orr did a great job. Eric Schwarm and all of the Thompson Valley Composite Squadron did a great job. Our commander and Command Staff did a great job.

When Historians, experienced PAOs, and good people doing heroic things come together in a heartfelt and sincere way, good things happen with the media.

Too many times we forget how very important CAP is. What wonderful things were done for others. How our volunteers contribute. Consequently this work was very rewarding. Heroes and survivors, history and news, and an exhibit as tribute, plus the finest people that I have ever had the opportunity to work with, made this 15 month effort ever so rewarding.

Never been spotlighted as CAP member, but have been in the local media many times over the years. As Emergency Management Director, I always seemed be good for a quote around budget time!

I enjoyed a good relationship with the local papers, and was able get them to write several positive articles about our 911 center.

Been interviewed on TV twice, both at wildland fires. One of them had an ANG Skycrane in the background doing a water drop. Yep, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Here are some links to coverage our squadron has gotten from flood support and Wreaths Across America. I happened to be the guy who got interviewed in many instances, but the squadron made it all a success:

The grid maps I created are the background for a photo in the current volunteer, and they also were very visible during the Fossett search.

Not exactly star billing, but it makes it worthwhile to see them used.
