Title: IS-700 new since 22 Dec?
Post by: Eclipse on December 26, 2008, 08:06:01 PM
Looks like there was a new 700 published on 22 Dec?  And its only good until Feb 09?

Is this one regularly updated for some reason?
Title: DHS Releases Revised NIMS - IS-700
Post by: sardak on December 26, 2008, 08:14:21 PM
DHS released a revised NIMS on 12/18/08. As a result, the IS-700 test is changing and the testing website was revised on 12/22.

The revised NIMS core document is at the NIMS Resource Center:
http://www.fema.gov/emergency/nims/index.shtm
Download the "NIMS Document, 3.8 Mb PDF"

From the FEMA EMI Testing Site http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/IS700a.asp
EMI has revised and updated the IS-700 course materials. Please begin using the IS-700.a materials immediately. At this time there are no downloadable materials for IS 700.a but they are forthcoming.
Both the 700 and 700a tests are available.  The 700 test must be completed by February 13, 2009.

After previous NIMS and NRF updates, those who had taken previous versions of the 700 and 800 tests did not have to take the new test. I expect that policy will hold true this time, also.

Related, but of much less importance, are two draft documents from DHS which are out for public comment.
Intelligence/Investigations Function Guidance Document
"Though similar in some areas, it should be noted that the Intelligence/Investigations Function is not meant to supplant or compete with the activities implicit in the Planning Section, or to oversee operational or situational  intelligence..."  The Intel/Investigation function is for incidents requiring professional investigations during law enforcement and public health emergencies, as examples.

The second draft document is
NIMS Guideline for the Credentialing of Personnel
This explains the credentialing process and not the specific credentialing requirements for personnel.

Both are available from http://www.regulations.gov  Use the search terms "investigation function" for the first document and "credentialing guidelines" for the second. Comments must be made from links there, and the comment period is open until January 21, 2009.
