I'm sitting at my desk, thinking about what I accomplished this year, and setting goals for 2009.
Here's what I've got for 2008:
• SUI is finally in good shape. With changes in key positions, it wasn't current.
• New members at Level 1 within first 30 days. The Great Start program really works.
• Use of electronic records and library, reduced paperwork as much as possible.
• OPSEC and NIMS, ongoing challenge.
• Squadron website developed, kept up to date. Squadron computer network installed.
• Personally - my PD is on track, completed Mission Scanner, became more active at Wing level.
So far, for 2009:
• Utilize SIMS to its full potential, for cadets and seniors.
• Scan old records for archive and preservation.
• Motivate our new members to continue PD, keep up with my own PD.
• Try to stay current with the constant changes in regulations and ICLs.
Anyone have similar thoughts?
My two biggest goals are getting past the SUI's and going 100% paperless with my records as a pilot for my units.
Get the ECI-13 done - last thing needed (including TIG) for Capt.
Everything else is a directive from my CC. :D
That Kirt can get his Squadron to keep the place clean or there will be HELL to pay !!! >:D
For me, get Captain.
Mine is to make C/Am and go to an basic encampment.
Mine is to never make another resolution!
OK....
Make Captain. (I am eligible in March)
Fly 100 hours CD missions in 2009 (I did 50 hours in 2008)
Merged.
In 1996, I made a New Year's Resolution: Never make another New Year's Resolution. Kept it so far.
Finish my Surgical, Medical Control, and Blood Gas rotations for my EMT-CC class within the month, and maybe start on my field rotations.
Not enough hours in the year.
CAP
- Maintain all current ES quals that expire in 2009
- Plan and execute 4 distinct ES exercises and make them annual training activities (like my WINTEX in DCWG)
- Complete IS 300 and IS 400
- Implement a structured recruiting drive followed by an open house and initiate a T-Flight program in my squadron
- Begin preparation for being an Encampment Commander, even if it doesn't happen by Winter 2009
- Attend National Staff College and earn Wilson Award
Professional
- Become subject matter expert in my current position
- Begin first ever mimimum training standards for my staff within 3 months of initial hire
- Complete Standard Operating Guidelines for my department
- Establish a department reputation that the other 850 employees can look up to, admire, and respect
Military
- Pin on TSgt by May (should have happened in 2008 but there was a glitch in leadership)
- Create, select and train a Protective Services Unit (PSU) of at least 6 personnel to be on standby for protective services missions. This happened twice in 2008 and my command pretty much failed, even after I offered my expertise on the subject.
- Get everyone in my squadron up to speed on their new equipment which no one seems to know how to put together.
- Not get shot out on the range by poorly trained airmen who have zero interest in shooting or being military in general
- Reenlist with a bonus; something that has never happened in my military career
Personal
- Continue my PT routine that I've kept for 10 years and maybe lose 5 to 10 lbs that I've gained since back surgery last year, having a second child in 2008 and starting a new job in 2008
- Be nice to my neighbors I keep calling the police on...I promise not to shoot their dog, burn their gangsta car or pepper spray the
criminal adult son who lives with his parents - Accomplish at least two major home improvement projects
- Spend as much time as humanly possible with my awesome son and daughter
- Keep my wife happy and try to bear as much of the responsibility for taking care of our children
- Get back up on my surfboard(s) after a 2008 hiatus due to back surgery
- Go fishing, my all time favorite thing to do
Retire from CAP
Cecil DP, we don't retire from CAP. We just fly off over the horizon.
Ain't that similar to what the cowboys used to do? Ride off into the sunset.
I'm retiring. If I just fly off into the horizon, I don't get the certificate.
The reason is I've done everything I can in CAP, have reached terminal grade of LtCol with 18+ years TIG. Had my GRW for 24 years. Been a Sqdn and Group Commander. What else is there to do?
Truthfully I ask myself every year whether I should renew. This year the answer came back no.

 Thanks for your years of dedicated service. Undoubtedly, you've made the organization (and thus in turn our community and nation) that much better.
Enjoy "CAP retirement"! ;)
Goals? What goals?
-- Kick schneid on the SUI.
-- Get a squadron emblem approved and on uniforms.
-- Boost membership and grow/develop both the senior and cadet sides of the house.
-- Get all my pilots their Form 5 and 91 rides, and get 'em all mission-qualified.
And on a personal level in CAP...
-- Figure out whether I want to take SOS or ACSC to finish Level IV and promote to light colonel after September.
How's that for starters?
