2 Feb 09 will mark the 22nd anniversary of when I joined CAP as a cadet.
Thats quite a large span....Im in the 12-45 year mark! I would imagine there are an elite few who can claim the anywhere close to 45 years.

I'm just curious why the first few ranges were 2 or 3 years, then it went from 12 to 45 years. That's a BIG range.

Joined 30 May 1991 as a cadet.
15 May 1996 turned officer.
Small gap somewhere in 2001-2002.
Still an officer.
10 Dec 1988 to now... 20 years .... wow im kinda old sounding for 33....LOL
Joined as a cadet in May 1984.
Was a cadet until May 1993, when I turned 21 and became an instant senior member.
Since then, I've been, well, a senior member, except that I DID get one cadet award after I turned senior -- a backdated Eaker Award certificate, un-numbered.
So in May, I'll put a "2" and a "5" on my Red Service Ribbon. Yip, 25 years. No free membership until I double that total. And my time-in-grade comes up for light colonel in September.
Cadet 69 - 73 (Army Active Duty for most of the last year, but could not turn senior until 18)
Senior 73 - 98 (Retired)
Senior 00 - Present
37+ years
Cadet 81 to 87.. I was still technically a cadet when they moved me to SM after I turned 21, but I was overseas, so I didn't actually "join" as a senior until I submitted fingerprints in '88 so I could renew. I love to tell folks I was a cadet after I was 21, watch their heads spin. :)

The switch in the PT is was influenced me to go over to the dark side early, now regreting it as they went best 3 out of 4 instead of 4 out 4.
Cadet '64 - '69 (C/WO)
SM '69 - '80 (?) (1st Lt(
SM '87 - present (Maj)
I can actually show paper for 34 years towards Red Service.
I'm a relative newbie here. SM 2002-present. Wish I knew about it when I was a kid.
Any particular reason why someone can't choose 7 years experience in the voting area?

Cadet Williams creates all these polls but never answers any himself. Strange.
Idea for a new Poll: "How many polls you have created that you wont answer yourself"

Just before I turned 30 I wrote a 5 page paper about spending half my life in CAP. I joined at age 14 and one day, while on an 8 hour flight to FRA from IAD, I pulled out my laptop and wrote this paper. Not sure why, or to whom, but it kept me busy as I reflected on my CAP experiences.
I've attached it below if anyone gets bored. This is almost 8 years old, so if you read it, keep that in mind. CAP was a lot different, even 8 years ago.
Click the attachment below and read on; learn about Stonewall's life experiences in and out of CAP, while a cadet and senior member...
Kirt, just read your paper and I think it should be required reading for all seniors, especially those of us that work with cadets on a regular basis.
I agree with the concept of quality vs quantity. I'd much rather have 10 good cadets that want to be there than 20 cadets that are there only because their parents want us to babysit. After working with cadets for a few years, now I can pretty much tell if the cadet will progress or it's a waste of time and money for them to keep coming. Still trying to figure out how to read senior members. I said a few years ago that I feel all senior members should have to go to an encampment to make Capt. Just my 2 cents worth.

Stoney, you described why so many of us are in this organization we love. My cadet experiences were the same as yours - a hard-charging unit, exacting standards, and a group of cadets who learned, progressed, and excelled in life. It was also my experience as an officer to try to replicate this and having huge road blocks put in my way. It hurts my heart to see these programs being run by slack-a$$es in so many cases. Those who run it the way it used to be are the ones, by and large, who have successful programs. You and I look at things the same way. Hopefully, one day we'll meet in person and I'll buy you a soda.

Serving proudly since 1996 -- seen and experienced things (both good and bad) in this organization since that time. It's the people (and the mission) that keeps my membership renewed. Have had the opportunity to meet and to work with some outstanding individiuals who have enriched my life...and have had some wonderful opportunities to serve God and my fellow-man.

Or maybe, "How many threads have you started with an inane topic?"

I will protect you with my "happiness shield" ;D
Honestly, All he wants is to lead in the "start a poll" column.
Not saying there is anything wrong with that, but questions that actually have a set of answerers that make sense would be key.
Williams......waiting for your next poll!! :P
^^ Knock it off.
PM is there for a reason
Redacted.....my apologies to IceNine and Cadet Williams, I was a bully......poll away fellas!
As I've said before, he's a new cadet and all of this is pretty exciting (remember when you just joined as a cadet?). Let's cut the young man some slack. Hopefully, he'll learn some things from you graybeards and end up as national commander some day. Hopefully he'll use some of wisdom that he's gleaned from you and turn this organization back into the force it once was.

When I was a cadet, if the internet had been around, I probably would have been too scared to post anything. Or it would have been a rule that
a. you can't post on CAP Talk until you complete T-Flight or
b. they'd have a class on how to post on CAP Talk.
I agree, post away, cadetwilliams. However, you may want to take some time in thinking out what you plan to post. Lots of us love to help out, answer questions, brag about our "tough" cadet days, or simply being entertained.
This ones done.
