Title: NYWG Conference & CadetFest '05
Post by: Pylon on February 22, 2005, 02:52:39 AM
I just heard about the upcoming New York Wing Conference and CadetFest for 2005.  Looks like it will be at the Owego-Treadway Inn in Owego, NY (not to be confused with Oswego, NY).  The dates are 15 to 17 April.

There is more information as well as info packets and registration forms available at the NYWG website (http://nywg.cap.gov).

Registration deadline is March 22nd and last chance to cancel with refund is March 29th.

Anybody here going or thinking about it?

Woud the Cadetfest sorta be like CAWG's CPC?

Yep.  The CadetFest is pretty much like the CAWG Cadet Programs Conference in many ways.  You have the banquet dinner, some CAC ongoings, some annual awards for COTY and others get handed out, plenty of networking and gladhanding with Squadron, Group, and Wing people, and seminars of course.

CadetFest is just a more... "festive" name for it, I suppose.   :D

Cool.  I'd love to go, but with my EMT training and stuff, it would be amazing if I could find the time  :-\

I'm probably going to head out, but rides are getting more difficult all the time.  My family's car just died on the off-ramp of 481 today, and it's going to the Great Junkyard of the Sky.  Other than that, I should be there.

Less than one week away! Who's going?

That has got to be the longest bump period EVER - four years and one month!

It seemed like a waste of a perfectly good, relevant (despite the difference of 4 years), and unlocked thread to not bump.

Not in New York, I wish. I would have spent even less time at High School then I actually did!

Believe me going to school is a lot better than working for the next 45-50 years of your life

Eh, I don't argue with someone who's BTDT, but I started working in construction when I was twelve, and and I've been riding ambulances since I was eighteen, and I vastly prefer working to college most days.

Come to Townsend. You'll see what studying, homework, and projects really are.

So, what did you think of the conference, gentlemen? I believe that I saw both of you, but I'm sorry that we did not get the chance to actually meet and talk, as yelling across the room is frowned upon.

By the way, I would like to again extend my thanks to Captain Lurye for the ride home.

Did everyone have a good time?  I felt bad for not going, after Kieloch texted me that I had won an award.  :-\

I'm groaning at my previous post here, frew up should have been grew up.
Anyways, was wondering were you were at Brodsky.
I'm a bit surprised this year, I got the Yeager award and the unit won some incentive award for growth which we didn't think we would get. Also one of the other SM's (A Major.) from the unit earned the Frank Brewer Lifetime Aerospace Award. (probably not the correct name but gives the idea of what he got.)
Over all it was a good conference and the boat ride didn't seem as long this year either.

Saw Pylon and was trying to remember why I knew the face from some where just check the Show Yourself page and that jogged my memory.

Sir, I saw an SM in grays with the last name Thornton walk by me either during the intermission or right after the general assembly. Before I had a chance to process that thought, he was gone. Would that happen to be you, sir?

There where two of us there, My dad and myself.
If he was a little gray on top and walked with a severe ;imp or dragged his foot, that would be my dad, if it was the senior whose hair wouldn't stay flat and looked wild, that would be me.
Grays?

Sorry sir. I mean the CAP Distinctive Aviator Shirt Uniform. And I do believe it was the senior whose hair wouldn't stay flat, sir.

Well, in that case it might have been him, sir. :-[
I enjoyed the CadetFest and getting the opportunity to work with other cadets outside of my squadron and group and/or neighboring groups, although I did feel a bit intimidated by the overwhelming amount of cadet officers in my presence.
The cruise/banquet was nice too. It was also my first time (EVER) on color guard. Can you guess which one I was?

You're welcome for the ride home, cadet.

I too enjoyed the conference. It was my first and I am inclined to go again next year. It doesn't hurt that the weather was just about perfect.
