Hi all,
I just wanted to let you know that I am deploying to the middle east in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I just found out this morning, and i am leaving saturday. I go from sitting in a college class to being in theater in about 2.5 days. This will essentially end my career as a cadet, but i look forward to continued involvement with CAP when I return.

That's awfully fast. Keep your head down.
Take care of yourself. We're proud of you!

Be safe. And what those guys said. ;D
Take care over there. What do you do?
I might be joining you in a few months. Most likely by the time you leave, I too will be there. Good luck and keep your head down. We're all pulling for you.
good luck
Good luck, man... the dark side will be waiting for you when you get back. You'll be standing around the donut box telling war stories in no time. ;)
Keep your head down & come back safe. And that's an order! ;D
Good Luck, Matt. Did two tours on this end. Good time of year to go.
Keep in touch from the internet cafe's if you can.
The usual rules apply. If you don't do anything dumb, you have a better chance in Iraq than you do on the highways at home.
BTW - The Green Beans Chai Latte's are excellent. Don't miss steak night at the DFAC. And... If the Pizza Hut, Subway, or Burger King item you're eating doesn't taste right, don't continue eating it.. :-X
Stay safe and come back to us.
Congratulations, son, on joining the ranks of the exclusive fraternity of folks who have done that and been there. You will always be a brother.
Viet Nam 65-66 and ROK 63-64 _got shot at there in peacetime: North Koreans didn't like our airplane.
Take it easy and take care of one another out there...
Godspeed....Keep your head down and come back and tell us great war stories.
You are in my prayers.

Good luck to you. Why would it end your career as a cadet. You arent active duty. Your reserve unit is being deployed. two difernt things. You are stil in the reserbes on temp active duty status.

Nope, that constitutes extended active duty. I can't find the KB discussion right now, but anything other than
boot camp, tech schools, monthly and annual drills, and other active duty for training puts you into the SM arena.
CAPR 39-2
2-2d. Not a member of the active duty Armed Forces. NOTE: National Guard and Reserve personnel are not considered active duty Armed Forces unless they are serving on extended active duty. For the purpose of this regulation, CAP does not consider Basic Military Training for Guard and Reserve personnel as extended active duty.

That is correct - Basic/AIT/Tech School are active duty for training. People get active duty/active army/regular army mixed up.

Where you gonna be, Mark? I'm in Iraq right now. Gets dusty, keep one of those camo handkercheifs handy (it also helps when the smell of the stuff burning gets too strong).
My brother Matt deployed. He uses my account. PM sent.

Hey, you keep your head down too. I don't want any more of our helicopters broke over there.
