Title: Member stats page....
Post by: Capt Rivera on November 18, 2008, 10:39:05 AM
Look what I found...

http://level2.cap.gov/visitors/resources/people/ (http://level2.cap.gov/visitors/resources/people/)

Wonder how out of date it is and who I could beg for an update. [hopefully they see this here and just do it]

Look at the survey, last slide, education level information....

I wonder what NHQ would do if we all started calling in updates...? I know I'm listed as not having a HS Diploma...

I have completed my fair share of degrees since then... with at least one more on the way...

Interesting education stats, it may explain why some CAP members can't write a press release correctly.

As discussed here
http://captalk.net/index.php?topic=6305.0;all (http://captalk.net/index.php?topic=6305.0;all)

Our stats are very wrong as there is no current known or easy way to update that information. Whatever you wrote on your last application is whats on file.

What I don't get is how the need to update this information didn't occur to them when they made that slide show...

I didn't look, but do we report this in our annual reports to congress or anywhere else? It was really not that hard to find, [relatively speaking] on our website....

When a outside agency (government or private) looks for information on us... what are we telling them by saying XX% of our organization has a HS diploma or below...Or by indicating that the education level of our membership is not worth tracking?

We are reporting this info voluntarily, and who in the right mind reports BAD or discrediting information that they are not required to report? No matter how anyone outside of CAP sees the information, (either as correct or incorrect) they will still see a very poor reflection of our decision making and information handling at the least (Because its a choice to release the information...)

Glad this has not shown up on our wikipedia page yet...

Considering the total number is about 10k to high, and its on a website no longer being updated, I wouldn't hold off exhaling
waiting for an update.

^ Actually, the current number is correct.  We have slightly over 57000 "active" senior and cadet members  The rest are patrons, sponsors and AEM's.  The survey section is not current.  I've seen the same graphs for the last few years.
NHQ has been authorized to look into purchasing a new membership/organization software system which would help keep things current and allow members to update all personal information.  What we're using now is not adequate for our needs.

I've never seen any breakout of membership, only total numbers - in fact that issue has been noted repeatedly by CAP/USAF in terms of how we report readiness to Congress.

The last numbers I saw were under 55k.

If you have something authoritative that shows different I'd love to see it.

What systems are they considering...?

Will they ask the field if they have personal experiences with some they would recommend or absolutely recommend against... Are they considering open source platforms for both security and financial reasons?

Some of us members work for much larger organizations, that track more information... their might be valuable information freely available if asked...

I think they are currently researching the software AFA and AOPA use.  They have also gone to a few conferences where such software has been exhibited.  I don't know if any members have given input.  If you would like to reccomend a package, I don't see any problem in sending suggestions up to NHQ for consideration.  I would suggest the EX's office for sending the info to.
