Lord knows why this just came to my mind, but anyway...
When we were issued the ISRs a few years ago, there was a big deal made about them being the standard issue squad radio the Marines were using in the Gulf, and that sale was restricted to Gov'mint contractors.
Fine, that's cool, but they don't appear to have any encryption capabilities.
Are / were these actually being used in the "real" field, and aren't they vulnerable to overhear by the bad guys?
I've seen footage Marines using them stateside on the Military Channel, but that was filmed a few years ago.
Yes ISRs are still used in the field...and no they have no encription capability.....but based on their range and the type of communications that they are supposed to be used for...there is not really a need for encryption.

With the range they seem to have it would be hard to over hear them so their is no need for encryption.
