Title: Criteria for gear
Post by: hatentx on September 28, 2008, 02:25:34 AM
I was wondering what regulation covers colors and such things when it comes to SAR or ES gear in general.  Is my ACU print going to be kosher?

There is no comment currently with regards to the color of tactical vests.

The current regs require hydropacks be either brown, black or woodland camo.

Otherwise, no one cares, today.

Did you buy it ACU pattern for a reason, or is this repurposed from some other service?

Well I was looking at a ruck sack that is better than what I got issues and was thinking I could use it for both CAP and for the RM

So what is the Reg though that covers this?

The only reg (PM or Letter) I ever saw about gear concerns the camelbacks.  I have yet to see one that regulates gear as a whole.

39-1 covers this type of equipment when they choose to add it in.

Orange vests used to be a "tactical item" only required as part of the ES tasking guides, it is now specifically referenced in 39-1, as are the hyrdopacks.

Otherwise, there's no indications regarding color, type, etc., and opinions will abound.

The reason I asked why you were talking about ACU pattern is it doesn't match anything in CAP, nor will it ever (ABU pattern is different).  But if you're buying something for the Army, its a different conversation.

Yeah it is for the Army side of my life but it is a great pack and would work well with what would be done in CAP as well.  Plus I wouldn't want to spend that money on something I am not going to be able to use when I am out of the military.

Don't worry about the color. Once your in the woods nobody cares. The color only matters if you are one of those guys that walks around mission base like the guy at a mission in December. Full SWAT vest, knee pads, bike helmet,  a first aid kit strapped on like a thigh holster, fingerless gloves, and doo-dads attached everywhere. He looked like he was going to assault a hijacked plane or given his size maybe the snack wagon. :D

When I see people like that it's hard not to laugh.

Sorry ... To my eternal regret I have no pictures.
