Title: Cover on AKO
Post by: hatentx on September 22, 2008, 01:27:56 AM
Wow I was getting ready to log on to AKO and all the sudden I see and Apache nothing to crazy right?  Until I realized I just saw that picture and ready the caption about it being my unit at gunnery last week.  Haha closest I've been to being famous lol

It is just not equiped with the FCR on top, (the big spare tire on top of the rotor blades)which is the tell tell sign on a D model.  Most of the Ds are set up that way.  Down range they almost never equip them with the FCR

That's a lot of extra weight for something that can't see a sniper, RPG, or mortar position, and you gotta fly some high passes in afghan.

very true.  Extra 600 lbs.  Burns through a bag of gas a lot faster that way.  There is no real need from them there are no tanks.  Funny story was a few rotations ago long after tanks and such were gone an aircrew had a tank come up on radar.  Fater looking and verifing it was a friendly they decided to recon before taking the shot.  as the came closer it was a hurd of Camels that some how set off the same signals as a tank.  It was the camel farts or something I guess.

;D  yeah, so we're still in the A model & apparently won't deploy unless they transition us to Ds, which weigh more/burn gas/can't go as high... who's making these decisions?
