I attended the California Wing Conference this past weekend and at the opening general meeting It was announced by the National representative, that ECI 13 would be going away this fall 2008. Nothing was said about a replacement, alternate course or test.
Does anyone have more on this?
They are designing and testing a CAP Basic Officer Course that is designed to replace CAPSOC.
I haven't heard anything about implementation dates yet however so that is a first for me.
If you search around on here we have had some lengthy discussions about this course
I don't believe there is a due date yet as it is still in prodeuction.

And until the replacement is ready, the ECI 13 (or rather the AFIADL 00013), will not go away. So, my advice is to continue with the current course until the new one is up and running.

It is in the very early stages of production. So I would not look for it in the very near future...stilll several months out (definitely not Fall '08). The course will be on-line as well as the testing.
Thanks for the many responses. I really don't remember the name of the National rep who spoke at the conference but he was sure that "the fall of 2008" it would be gone. With his announcement came a cheer from many of the two hundred plus people in the meeting.

I didn't really find the course to be that bad, but it is a major block in many members' advancement.

If updated (our web site is not cap.af.mil :o), the content of the course would be fine. The medium is lousy. The books look like 4th or 5th generation copies. A mixed media web presentation like SOS would be a lot better way to present it.
Combine that with a on-line testing system like we have for the Spaatz. (someone has to activate it for the testee) and it would be a solid program

I can say with some reason of certainty that it will not be gone by the "fall of 2008." ;) They may do away with the old AFIDL 13 -- which I doubt since the new CAPBOC is still in production and will not be out by that date. I would think that NHQ would not do away with the current material until the CAPBOC has been put into place....but stranger things have happened :)

I agree that being on the web with testing would make life a whole lot easier. Any word on content for the new course?
I just received the 00013 course and I was shocked at the quality of the whole thing. It looks arduous and unwelcoming. Not only that, instructions weren't all that clear (it brings an envelope-I have no idea why) and I think it's missing something that was listed on the packing sheet. I just realized today that it is the only thing left for me to complete level 2.

Heck even Moodle Would do nicely for this (best thing is that the software is free) look at PAWG's virtual classroom (done with Moodle)

note: that system is inactive pending some work since there were staff changes in the training area. Hopefully we'll have good support for it going forward and fully implement it.
