Alright folks.....whos coming? Its in 2 weeks. If you have any questions let me know.
Rob: as you already know, I'll be there on Sat. If things go well, I might register on Fri evening: but have to fly that day.
I'm coming in on Thursday and planning on taking the Project Officer class on Friday. Does anyone know what seminars are being offered during the remainder of the conference?
Grumpy: I think that the whole schedule is on the CAWG website. That said, it is somewhat lacking in details. I do know that the OPS section has all day from 1100 to about 1600, because I am supposed to be present at some of that to do a quick take on CD.
If Ops is all day Friday, I'll probably miss it but if it's Saturday, I will try to be there.
Grumpy: no, Ops is most of the day Sat, so you should make at least some of it. It is allowed a lot more time than I think will be used, so you might try the early hours of it.
Look for me: I will have a name tag on.
Haven't heard anything about the fly-in stuff yet ... which airport (FAT or FCH), when is the shuttle available (or just call a cab), etc. Has this been figured out yet?
We will have vans available depending on when you come in. A cab ride to the Raddison would be but about 15 minutes. Come into FAT if your flying. You can choose from Atlantic, Corporate or Scott. Scott Aviation allows our Sq. plane to tie down for free and they do our maintenance as well. I can check on the tie down fees from the the FBO's but I think as long as you buy gas from Scott they usually waive the tie down fees for CAP. So a little love might go a long way ;D
FCH appears to be a lot closer to the hotel, but FAT is the preferred?
AvGas appears to be 50 to 80 cents cheaper at FCH.
Which should we plan for? I'd prefer to do what ever is easier for the locals to deal with..
I didnt take gas into account because we base our plane out of Scott. But WOW....I didnt realize they were that much cheaper. Its also self serve at FCH vs the others the truck comes to you. That may be why. It would be nicer for the drivers to be able to go to one airport instead of running between two. Also, FAT has a whole host of instrument approaches should that be necessary. FCH has an NDB. Again, Im not coordinating any of this officially. I fly into FCH a couple of times per week but Im not familiar with any of the services other than they have a self serve pump there. If possible, personally, Id try and get into FAT. After hours, or early, FCH can be a ghost town. All of the drivers are most familiar with FAT since thats where we go for our plane.
I have seen NO official word on what airport to come into, and I dont believe there will be any. If you want to come to FCH it wont cause any problems, and I imagine not every pilot coming in is a frequent reader of CAPTalk, so just about the time I tell you to go to FAT, there will be a line of planes at FCH!
OK.....I got the word tonight. Go to Chandler (KFCH) we are arranging for free tie down near the hangar that belongs to a CAP member, and we are trying to arrange with the city so that planes coming for the conference (CAP or Private owned) can park in transient parking free of charge. We will have trans availble via CAP vans. Let me know your contact info and ETA if you want the van to come and get you if you havnt already made arrangements through other conference contacts.
However, if you elect to go to FAT......if you purchase fuel from Scott Aviation, they will not charge you a tie down fee either.
