Title: CAP decals
Post by: RiverAux on July 13, 2008, 09:17:19 PM
A lot of you have probably seen podiums that have had a CAP seal on them.  All of the ones I have ever seen have reflective coatings on them that make it impossible to take a good photo of someone standing behind them.

Does anyone know if any of those CAP decals being sold by Vanguard are non-reflective?  I'd like to replace ours, but don't really expect the Vanguard customer service people to know the answer.

Thanks.

The one's that I've seen were using the Scotchlight CAP Seal. Yeah that's going to reflect just a bit.

I've haven't seen anybody selling the new insignia like they use on the airplanes now, but that's probably what you want since it is not Scotchlight but is just a Vinyl sticker and does not reflect light.

You used to be able to order a CAP seal that was plaster to use as a wall hanging, but you could also mount it on a podium.  I don't know if Vanguard still sells it though.

I seem to recall those plastic ones as being reflective as well.  Is that right?

If this is the same thing at our wing HQ then it's not.  But if it's something else, then I am not sure.

Nothing a quick spray with some Testors Dull Cote won't fix.
You can find it in most hobby shops and probably craft shops too.

Use enough aux lighting that you won't need a flash.

Dull Cote won't do a lot, since the reflective material will still be underneath what you spray on. That's similar to the hokey covers they sell for license plates that supposedly make them invisible to stop light cameras and laser speed guns. They don't work.

Dave, the plastic seals aren't reflective, they're just shiny plastic.
The Dull Cote will kill the plastic shine.

I guess it depends on which one you have. The one on our HQ door is definitely reflective. Hit it with a flashlight beam in the dark, and it's almost like a second sun.

You're talking about the Scotchlight CAP Seal.

The plastic and plaster seals are "three dimensional" and are not stickers.

Or for about $150 you can get a custom-carved and painted wooden wall/podium seal like the real professionals use.

Gotcha. I think I've only ever seen one of those, many moons ago, and it had seen better days.

The OP was apparently not referring to the 3-D items, bu the flat sticker type ones, and I addressed that.
