So, I come to you for some help.
As you know the need to take ICS courses is great. It complies with new mandates and generally is a good idea.
So, why have I posted this.
Well, I'm writing a newsletter article describing how to take the online courses and, seeking the help of my CAPTALK peers. I was wondering if someone here could produce or maybe already has written, a step-by-step description of who to log in and then take and record these courses.
I would then, of course citing the threadster by name and rank, post them with illustrations.
I plan to do this myself but, as many can testify, I tend to be too verbose.
^If you put it on a website, can you post the URL here?
1) Go to FEMA web site (http://"http://training.fema.gov/IS/crslist.asp")
2) Choose the appropriate course.
3) Click on one of the "TAKE THIS COURSE" options in the top right corner of the web site.
For example: This web page: http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is100.asp
4) Follow the instructions in the course to learn all of the material.
5) When the lesson is complete and you feel prepared, follow the instructions to take the final exam. If you accidentally click out of the page, you can find a link to the final test on the opening page for a particular lesson.
Again: http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is100.asp. There is a box below "TAKE THIS COURSE" and "ADDITIONAL RESOURCES" which says "TAKE FINAL EXAM."
6)Depending on the course, there are two ways to take the exam. One method has you choose answers just below the questions with check boxes (IS-100 is an example). The other method requires you to open the questions and either print them or open them in a different web browser window and answer all of the questions on an answer sheet (IS-700 uses this method).
7) Answer all questions to the best of your ability and click "Submit" when finished.
8) Answer all personal information required by the site and give a correct email address. When complete, press, "Submit" again.
9)Once everything is finished, monitor your email address for any new mail. Results are usually sent very quickly. Open the email. If you passed the course, there will be a link to your certificate.
10) Print certificate and give it to the appropriate staff officer who will place a copy in your personnel file and update the information in your e-services account.
It's really a lot easier than it looks. Once you get to the web site it's a matter of following the on-screen course instructions. After that, just bring the certificate to whoever collects them.
So easy, a caveman can do it!
I have just a helpful hint that makes things easier...
Print the test out BEFORE you take the course. Fill in the answers as you take the course.
The method for doing this is different on the ICS-0200 & ICS-0700. On the 700 course, you just click on the test PDF and print it. For the 200 course, you have to select the test and print out each page.
Thank you.
Please send me a PM of your name, rank and Unit for inclusion in the article.

I have completed 13 of these courses and they have alot of good information. I would also suggest saving the pdf certificate they send to your hard drive. This is incase someone else looses that supporting documentation. If you take the right courses you can actually earn an Associates Degree in Emergency Management through Fredrick Community College in Fredrick Maryland.
Of course if you do that they might make you the ES boss for your state!!
At last count I have about 25 of these classes done. They are good information to have.

Speaking from personal experience, if you just know the url for the site that might happen to you. :'(
as people plow through these courses you should strongly consider the
professional Development series. THis certification is accomplished by completing seven courses. By doing this you develop a strong understanding in the duties and responsibilities of Emergency Management. This certification is a requirement of virtually every professional emergency manager in my state.
Plus the courses will give you the skills to become a better CAP officer

When you are finished they actually send you a nice certificate
