Title: Software for CAP
Post by: sarflyer on July 04, 2008, 06:14:48 PM
I haven't seen this mentioned here and I know some folks know about this but for those who don't.

The average cost of Microsoft Office Professional is about $300 to $400 bucks.

There is a clearing house for non profits called http://www.techsoup.org/ which distributes all kinds of software including MS.

Your cost for Office is $20 admin fee with an open license.  Can't beat that deal!

You have to read the conditions carefully.  The rules on budgets and organization types for various companies on there is a killer for CAP.

The trick is to buy Office with a new computer and factor it with other discounts you may get.

Here is another site that sells at steep discounts to non-profits.

http://www.1computerbargains.com/

IIRC MS Office 2007 Professional Plus license was about $76.  A DVD cost extra but you could use it to install multiple licenses that you buy.

You need to call them to work with the non-profit POC but the procedures are straight forward.

The only problem is, you can't use SIMS with it.
