Title: FL Ranger school suspension
Post by: RiverAux on May 18, 2008, 09:06:12 PM
It appears that the Florida "ranger" school has been suspended.  See this news release from the FL wing page: http://flwg.us/publications/rangersuspension.pdf

Why the suspension occurred is explained to some extent by News of the Force reported this based on a phone interview with the Wing CC:
QuoteCAP Col. Chris Moersch, the wing commander, told NOTF yesterday that the move is "sort of an administrative suspension." He said that he is a graduate of the CAP's Hawk Mountain Ranger School in Pennsylvania, and that the Florida Wing's school should be up to the same standards. "When I ask specific questions about the school, and a I get, 'Well, uh....,' there's only so many 'Well, uhs...' I can hear before I start to think some further emphasis might be required," he said.
Most of the problems seem to be administrative, such as cadets completing courses but not being credited for the courses, etc.
"As you probably know, another CAP Ranger School is going to be established in the northwestern United States soon. This is an important school, and we just want to make sure everybody [at all the schools] are operating on the same page," the colonel said.

One interesting thing I saw in the FL news releases was this:
QuoteThe Hawk Mountain Ranger Training Center in Pennsylvania is the national training school of the CAP Ranger program.
Really, I didn't know we had a national ranger program...

If it truly were "administration" related issues, they would fire the administrators and hire new ones.  Perhaps there is a real explanation.

Can we get HAWK shut down too this summer?  Please??

Maybe a reference to the survival school they want to set up at the Evergreen location.

1.  trust me, we're not jealous.
2.  Yes I agree you train people to walk up and down mountains.
3.  I don't trust a single medic from your school.
4.  We don't care about the bling.
5. I'm not laughing either.

Aight.

Did you miss the 'joke' tabs?

I've never been to Hawk, never plan on going, and don't support it. I was, in fact, mocking it.

Remind me again what becoming "qualified" as a "Medic" at a week long CAP class actually qualifies you to do?

Or how to carry a "Ranger" out of the forest when he or she says "watch what I learned at Hawk".

I don't see how cadets that go to Hawk are any better then any other cadets in ES I'm not saying they don't learn anything, maybe they do, it probably just drowns under all their bling and ego.
