Title: ICS Checklists
Post by: KyCAP on April 28, 2008, 11:22:38 PM
Just a handy little tool that I ran across.  This thing is pretty handy for "quick" look and refresh of NIMS operations.   Better than carrying a load of manuals.

Here are some free documents with position checklists.

Emergency Responder FOG
http://www.fema.gov/pdf/emergency/nims/erfog.pdf

From the US Coast Guard, which understands ICS better than most.  Under Job Aids look at the Incident Management Handbook, the Coast Guard ICS Position Job Aids (NWCG is OK too, they just don't have as many as the Coast Guard), and the Operational Planning P's.

The next two are more oriented towards wildland fire though there are "all-risk" sections.

Incident Response Pocket Guide

Wildland Fire FOG

And for comm,
DHS Office of Emergency Communications National Interoperability Field Operations Guide

For the members going to EVAL...

The CAP-USAF Evaluators Checklist...  Start on page 52 for YOUR position's check list as the CAP-USAF thinks how you should run it..  Actually good stuff..

You really should check this one out.  It is posted on the CAP site under Operations.

http://www.cap.gov/documents/ES_Checklist_Guides.doc

I found the NIMS specific checklists are ok, but they are very general and not CAP specific.  The ES Checklist Guide is based on the old Pamphlet 12, evaluation results, and best practices.  I didn't notice any areas that needed changing when I reviewed it against the replacement for Pamphlet 12 -  CAP-USAFI 10-2701.

Got one myself a few months ago through Barnes and Noble web site.

Check and see who gives you the best deal when Tax and Shipping are added in.

Don't know what prices you guys are paying, but I managed to get one on eBay for about $20, including shipping. It's a handy little item, should serve me well if I get back into the ES fray.

I have the FOG from the State of California.  It wasn't that expensive and it fit in my BDU pocket.  While there was lots of non-CAP stuff, you can adapt/read between the lines.  It's also nice to know what your non-CAP counterpart is doing/looking for when you're working together.

I think my FOG from CA was about $21.00.

Not familiar with the "FOG". Is it a Cali OES thing?

Yes.  Pretty good, too.  You can find it on the net.

I think I'll run a search. What does the acronym break down to?

Added: Just ran a search, would you have a link? There are over 500 hits on it, I want a little bit better narrowing than that.

FOG = Field Operations Guide

The FOG published by California FIRESCOPE, in (BDU) pocket size costs $6.50.  The ordering page is:
http://www.firescope.org/fog-order-info.htm

The 8.5 x 11 PDF version is free and can be downloaded complete or by chapter at:
http://www.firescope.org/ics-8x11-fog.htm

FIRESCOPE = FIrefighting REsources of Southern California Organized for Potential Emergencies.  This is the group that basically invented ICS back in the 1970s.

There are some other free FOGs available from FEMA and others listed in the third post of this thread.
