Has anyone noticed the phase-out of CAPT 116 pt 2 and it's replacement: the I-100 test from FEMA?
Does anyone know if the new test follows the back half of CAPR 60-3, and if so, is the new test open-book like CAPT 116 pt 1?
Thank You
The IS-100 test is really very easy. There is a study guide on the FEMA page where you click to take the test. It is all online and you get a "nice" looking certificate in your email when you are done. The IS-100 test is completely seperate from CAP and is all generic ICS stuff. If you passed part II of the 116, you shouldn't have any real problems with the IS-100.
Does this mean that everyone will have to retake this to be GES qualified?
"MEMORANDUM FOR REGION AND WING COMMANDERS
FROM: CAP/CC
SUBJECT: National Incident Management System (NIMS) Training"
"3. Most members will need to complete a few online courses by 31 December 2008 in order to
remain qualified..."
I'd say yes.
There was a automatic transfer of ICS data from members records (SQTRs???, On-line Exams???) into the Ops Quals validation section for validation into the ICS related SQTRs. Far too many ICS 100 courses for the CAPT 116 Pt 2 to not be counting as the ICS 100. CAPT 116 was revised in 2004 and all members who wished to remain ES active had to take it.
All members will need to complete at least ICS 700 to remain ES qualified. Mission Pilots have to complete ICS 200. Most mission base personnel will have to have ICS 200 and ICS 800. Section Chiefs have to complete ICS 300. All Incident Commanders and a few other postions have to complete ICS 400 (they have until Sept next year. Trainees have to do it now to get qualified.
Nevada Wing has a briefing that covers this: http://www.nvwg.cap.gov/emergency-services.htm

From Knowledgebase answer #1576
IS-100 is considered equivalent to Part Two (ICS 100 Level Training) of the CAPT 116, and can be entered into MIMS [now Ops Qual]...IS-200 is considered equivalent to G-193 (ICS 200 Level Training)...
and from answer #1396
G193 is equivalent to ICS 200 level training.
G195 is equivalent to ICS 300 level training.
G196 is equivalent to ICS 400 level training.
For those looking for the G19x classes now, they were superseded by the ICS and IS classes. According to the message in eServices, all of these should transfer over, but will require validation.
Attached is a chart showing the conversions and new requirements.
Once the new CAPR 60-3 is released, everyone will have to take the new CAPT 116 (formerly part 1), which is a test on the content of 60-3.

Probably a good idea but what is the source?

^^From the draft 60-3 "To remain current in the GES specialty all current holders will complete new CAPT 116 within 180 days of issuance of a new examination"
Those same words are in the current (2004) and in the previous (2001) versions of 60-3. I have certificates stating that I completed CAPT 116 Part 1 in 2002 and 2004, and I don't take tests unless I have to. :)

You could argue that IS-100 (ICS-100 in FEMA terms) should make the 116 test about half as long.
If you made it through 116 p2 you have most the knowledge you need for is-100
I always thought it was kind of silly to have our own ICS text and test when a national standard version was easily available. Glad we finally recognized that.
How can you say save (for lack of a better word) your progress so you can stop and then start again later?

You don't need to save it. You can just go back to the section where you left off since you don't sign in or register in any way until after you finish the exam, at which time you will either be sent an email saying that you did pass, and a copy of the certificate, or that you didn't and advice to review the materials and try again. As far as I know, you can take the exams (most of which are 25 questions or so) as many times as you need if you should become tangled up in the terminology and such, but most people find the ICS courses very easy. Just remember that even though the FEMA Independent study site lists ICS 300, that course is no longer available for online completion.
Also, as a side note, if you are well-acquainted with the ICS terminology, levels of command, procedures, etc it is possible to go straight to the exam and take it, if one should wish to do so.
Anybody know if the ICS-100 is open-book like CAPT 116 part 1 or do I need to finish studying the lessons ;) ?
i did a little studying and took 100,200, and 700 and passed so it's your call.
they have no way to make the test closed book. there is no proctor.
