Well, myself and a couple other members of my Sq. have just put the final touches on moving from our $2000 per month building, to the FREE Army National Guard Armory. I picked up the keys today. What a relief. This was the top priority when I took over two months ago, and thanks to the Senior Staff of the Sq., it happened. We have some very nice facilities and the Army seems to be going out of their way to help us. LTC Jim McKoane was the spearhead in this and it would not have been possible without his political savy! ;D
Yes, I said $2000 per month. Thats $2000 per month for the last 24 months. Do the math folks. I think of the flight and encampment scholarships we have flushed down the toilet. :'( Don't ask me why....I just took over! But now the nightmare is over.

dang we don't even GET $2k/month in funding! I don't know how much we get per year but i know its not $20k! (for sq operating funds, this is not in addition to missions and such). Good, now you can afford to fund the cadet programs better and scholarships as well :).
How in the world did your squadron come up with that much? Our squadron probably didn't raise $2K a year, though we haven't had a need to either.
good job on the move.
I just can't believe any SQD would pay $2,000 PER MONTH! Are you people idiots?!?! Seriously, that is what comes to my mind, you are freaking insane. How, why, where..... what a waste of money. I am so shocked your wing let you get away with that. I am so shocked NHQ let you get away with that. For everything we all went through when the Wing Banker program rolled out this is one example of wastefull spending on a HUGE scale. I was totally shocked. You must be the highest funded SQD in the country. How do you do it. What the crap are you selling to raise that kind of rent money.
My second question, what are you going to do with your surplus money that you don't have to spend on rent. Encampments and Cadet Programs for a SQD do not run all that much.

Im not the idiot, thats why my first act as Sq. Commander was to move. It wasn't up to the wing, the money belonged to the Sq. We are not a "funded" Sq. So lets not take it out of context. But your right, it was a waste. But it wasnt money that could have been given to another Sq. or used on some other program. The Sq. had large amount of money that was paid to the unit after 9/11 by the Air National Guard because we were kicked off the base. They felt bad and basically said sorry, here is $$$$ go find another home. The money provided to the Sq. actually had no connection to any CAP funding. And there lies the problem. We are not funded, as you assumed and the money, what is left of it, is running out. Its mostly gone and that is the sad part.
What are we doing now? Saving what we can and putting this chapter behind us. And, we moved to a free building.
I posted this because I agree it was a waste, a sad one. Please save your lecture and your insults.
Considering that you had to pay at least $48,000 in the past 24 months, I can't even begin to imagine how much the ANG must've given you. :o
2000 X 24 =48,000
Ahhhhh..you went back and changed it ;D

Yea, sorry about that.
Anyway, it's a huge number for CAP unit. And I thought the $7000 donation to my squadron was a lot.
wow the ANG kicked your unit off the base? There are still a few units still "living" on base at least there are two units on ANG base (one each, PANG (Portland Air National Guard) and Klamath Falls, which has an F-15 training squadron there.
but yeah I hear that military bases are very reluctant to CAP being on base because of the fact we retain our civilian status. Infact, it is my understanding that if your unit's facilities are on base it is difficult to get high speed internet due to DoD security issues the base will not share their internet/network for that obvious reason. And actually we have another unit which has a facility on a USCG base but I don't think that is considered DoD? Again, there they have no high speed internet either.
And I find it very awesome of the ANG base you guys were with to give you tons of money, they must have had some kind of surplus too. So saving as much as you can is a great idea :).

It really depends on the state. A friend of mine was talking about the good relationship they have with the Maryland Air Guard. They use the CAP as an integral part of their force and they, in turn, use their facilities. Their wing king is a former guard officer (retired methinks) and the Assistant AG Air is a big proponent. Too bad it's not more wide spread.
Our last AAG-Air here was a big proponent as well, and we use ARNG facilities for two encampments, ES trng, and cadet PD several times a year. We have a Sq on the state HQ base with a full bldg right next to the PX for free, and a Sq on the ANG base where my ARNG unit is based, also free though they share half the bldg with ANG. Both of those are inside secure 100% ID bases. There's a system in place at both for access & no real problems. Both have been on those facilities for pretty much ever. We also have several units are reserve & guard armories. We do have internet in each of those places, through various means.

Send me a PM and give me some insight on how this is done. We will be moving next year into a new NG Readiness Center and I would like to know how other CAP units get internet access, to have some levearge in gaining internet access for us.
Thanks.
