Just a heads up I am moving to St Pete Fl within the next few months and am looking at transfering.
I have been asked to serve as the Group 8 DDRO as thats my specialty and I am familure with St Pete Cadet Squadron but anyone from FL wanna tell me my other options?
In Group 8 there is the headquarters unit FL-153, St. Petersburg Cadet Squadron FL-066, Pinellas Senior Squadron FL-182, Oakhurst Cadet Squadron FL-084 (may be a composite, haven't kept up lately), Northside Christian School Cadet Squadron FL-445, Clearwater Composite Squadron FL-447 (Commander is username BuckeyeDEJ on here), Palm Harbor Cadet Squadron FL-438, and Pasco Cadet Squadron FL-439.
(Early) Welcome to Florida.
Well, while we're about it, I just acquired property in the Brooksville area. Looks like I'm moving there at the end of summer. What units in the area are the most active in ES?

Better plan on moving (or commuting) to Group 4.
or way south to 11. ;D
Hey now. Don't listen to those guys, and guys, you really shouldn't be dissing on us.
Group 8, which takes in the most densely populated county in Florida, is emerging after a slumber. Group has new leadership, and that leadership has that "vision thing" down.
Clearwater Comp Sq, now that it's no longer a cadet squadron, is becoming operationally viable. We have pilots. We're developing people in several specialties. We have energy and we're looking for more. If you want to visit on a regular UTA night (Thursday, 1900, Clearwater Air Park CAP building), come on down.

Hernando County Composite, which meets at the Brooksville Airport, Tuesdays at 1900.

Maj, I don't think anyone was "dissing" on Group 8 or Clearwater Composite or any other unit in the Group 3, 5, 8 area. By that logic they were also "dissing" Groups 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 800.
I strongly look forward to what Group 8 can do with its ES program, especially with the increased amount of activities. I also look forward to an enhanced DDR program within Group 8 and would be glad to assist in cultivating that, as would, I am sure, 1st Lt Adkinson.

From what I've seen over the email traffic, Hernando County Composite is highly active in ES. There are people who live in Brooksville who do travel to units in Group 8 so I wouldn't discount those units as well, the closest would probably be Palm Harbor Cadet Squadron.
No "dissing" intended in my comment....
By the way, population wise, Miami-Dade is the largest (Group 7) followed by Broward (Group 11) and then Palm Beach (Group 6). I guess density may be different, because half of each of these counties is uninhabitable.

I probably should join the Hernando Composite Squadron as a member of that squadron is actually responsible for me joining CAP almost 5 years ago.
To make a long story short, I like to hang out and watch airport traffic. Let my dogs out on a leash while I do. The only access close to the runway at Hernando County Airport is at the squadron parking lot. It's usually empty and quiet in the morning One morning, a member of the squadron (a Lt Col whose name I have forgotten) arrived and opened the building. Not wishing to be viewed as a trespasser, I spoke with him to make sure it was OK to park there. He was very courteous and as we talked it became clear that even retired folks like me were welcome to join as there was no age limit. So, that was the seed, and now here I am completing my 5th year and trying to figure out how to get to National Staff College later this year. You never know when a minute or two spent talking may result in a new member.
Hopefully Richochet, I will catch you there at NSC.
I sent in an application last year, but it didn't get there in time, and the class was full.

I have news, the Largest Group in FlWg, might be a Squadron.
