My b-day is coming up in a couple of weeks, and it happens to fall on CAP night. I'm probably going to go. Ideas?
Go for it man. I skipped my 16th b-day party to go to CAP.
BTW, spell check your topic title. ;)
I'd go ... I even went to a SAREX on the wifes birthday.
She is awful forgiving !

But it cost you didn't it ??? ::)
Well, how important is this particular BD? Any sort of milestone? Do regularly do special things on your BD? How "indispensable" are you at your unit?
BDs come once a year. Meetings come 40-50 times a year. I, personally, would go celebrate my BD.
As an aside, I've celebrated more than I have left.
YMMV.
I voted for other.....
Depends on your family values. Do they outweigh CAP's Values?
What I mean to say is this.
If you have a family that usually suffers through your SAREX's, many missions, many late meetings, then maybe just once you should attend to them. Even on your birthday.
If you are single......Go to the meeting.
Subtle hints for cake to your CC may not be a bad idea.
If you have nothing else to do, go to the meeting (and ask for treats). If you have friends (and I'm sure you do), a gf/wife, family in the area, go spend time with them. CAP won't come to a sudden halt if you miss one meeting.

That's the best advice. Now, having said that, if something special is happening at the unit, you might want to go. But if it's just a run of the mill meeting, take the time off.
As long as it's not a milestone birthday, I'd go to the meeting. In fact, I did. On 3 January I turned 47, and went to my squadron meeting. Who the heck celebrates a 47th birthday anyway???
I know a former wing commander who decided to schedule a wing conference during his wedding anniversary... without bringing his wife. He bought her a gift before he got home but we're still talking about it years later. >:D
I would skip a regular meeting any time a family member is celebrating any special day. It only comes once. Meetings go on and on and on and on.....

Okay, whippersnapper...see me in 22 years and let me know if that's still your opinion!! ;) >:D
My birthday used to fall on or around the weekend of a big festival that was a fundraiser for my unit (car parking).
I was at that festival every year, without fail. Could care less about my birthday: Lets make some money, lead some cadets, and park some darn cars! :0
Go to the meeting and then let them buy you some beers afterwards... Happy B-Day

Me, three years ago. This year I celebrate my 50th.
Oy.

Skip it and go eat at Applebees! "Eatin good in the neighborhood"!
It's th big 2-5, my brother is taking me out on the 29th ;)
No GF/wife/friend with benefits/etc. so I'll probably go
Make sure you rent a car too!

And a designated driver/Chauffeur
heh, I get bored of celebrating my birthday anyway... I mean there's NOTHING exciting about it! And I don't care what day of the week it is, I either stay home, go rent some movies or go to CAP (Nov 2007th mine was on a Tuesday, and I was gone for a month due to a nasty cold... my unit didn't acknowledge my birthday heh!).
Oh whats even sadder is my bday will be on a Saturday in 2008, I doubt my unit will recognize me then either... I'm becoming more disfiguritive hard to recognize with my mass grey hair every year (and I'm not even 30 yet).
BTW I am single, I'd do whatever I fancy... so if you are single you should go to your squadron meeting as well :). Unless family have something in store for you ;)
