If he manages to survive long enough to complete the specified term of service.
Good luck to you. Do not let these guys scare you. I've had the job for about six months now and am really enjoying it. Pick a great staff, make sure you have someone who has been around for a long while to advise you, and all will be well.
Condolences... ;)
Congradulations.
Congratulations. Do you still meet at FAT (Fresno Air Terminal / Fresno-Yosemite Int'l)? Years ago that used to be Gp 12/Sq 60, with another Sq (48??) at Chandler Field. FAT had a great search base capability.
A curse and blesing at once
Good luck ;D
Condolations :D
Command is the most challenging and the most satisfying assignment in the military. You are responsible for everything your unit does or fails to do.

What did you do in the SQD before being appointed? 1st Lt means you have more experiance than many SQD Commander Appointees. The whole, "great a new member, lets make him the Commander" approach vary rarely is successfull.
I am sure you can get a good team to get you going. I have confidence!

I have about 12 years total in CAP. 6 as a cadet, and 6 as a Senior. I had a several year break between Senior and Cadet. I served 5 years as a Deputy Commander for Cadets between Sq 59 and Sq. 45 in Southern Ca. I have spent the last year as the Deputy Commander for Seniors and ES officer. I just finished my Mission Pilot qual. I have an outstanding staff. My Deputy is a former Sq. Commander and so was my Ops Officer. My DCC is experienced, also a former cadet and a working CFI.
Things are poised to really get moving. We have started a recruiting effort at the local JROTC units which I think was successful. If anything, this will be interesting.
Congrats
Congrats and best of luck!
Congratulations, good luck, don't forget the finance audit, and don't sign for anything you haven't physically seen, counted, and inspected personally!
Welcome to the SQD COMMANDER's exclusive CLUB ;)

Yes ! good for you. . .
now according to Black Beard: You need to start "afresh", line up all the former staff officers, shoot them! and appoint new ones >:D
now, you may have to recruit another squadron , but it does solidify your base, and any threat of an overthrow.
We had our first meeting. Things went pretty darn well. We are now having Senior Meetings on Saturday mornings once per month, and the cadets are every Thursday night.
With the change, I had two experienced Seniors transfer in who are 100% dedicated to the cadet program. My DCC is also a working CFI. I now have 3 Seniors totally dedicated to the cadets.
As far as Seniors, we are a Sq. that is geared highly to the aviation side of ES. So our Senior Meetings will be focused on Professional Development towards Mission Pilot and Mission Observer status and ES in working with Ground Crews. As far as promotional Professional Development, most of my Sq. is made up of very senior Majors and LTC's who are all former Sq. Commanders and a Group Commander. It was really kinda neat.
I almost felt a little like George C. Scott at the opening scene of "Patton"! OK...maybe not quite like that ;D
Our big hurdle now is relocating our Sq. HOPEFULLY to the National Guard Armory.
