Title: Say Goodbye to U//FOUO, U//LES, and U//LIMDIS
Post by: Nick on January 21, 2008, 05:06:50 AM
The DoD thinks there's too many markings for unclassified information (http://www.fas.org/sgp/othergov/dod/cui122807.pdf).

Quote
"The new policy will replace all of the markings currently used for CUI within DoD (e.g. FOUO, FOUO-LES, LIMITED DISTRIBUTION) with [the] new standardized marking," the memo stated.  "We anticipate White House approval of the new policy shortly."

This obviously will affect CAP, with the U//FOUO marking on all its controlled operations-related information... so get ready for a very small change, folks. :)

Why can't anyone ever leave well enough alone?

hmmmm.......can't wait to see what they come up with.  I did notice that Ms Debbie Collins (in the letter) had a commercial email address (or a dot com).  Strikes me as weird that they published that in the letter....last I heard commercial emails were not allowed in official DOD published memo's, letters etc.

I would bet that Ms Collins works for a contractor.

^ Ah you are probably correct.  It didn't even strike me.

Rumor mill is that everything that is not wide-open information will become U//CUI (Controlled Unclassified Information), across all the agencies... but the more important point is that the task force is defining new guidelines as to what exactly constitutes CUI.  If it doesn't fall under those guidelines, it is straight-up unclassified and subject to FOIA.  So, a lot of the stuff that is currently exempted from FOIA will now become releasable.

And yeah, she's a contractor.  It's typical to bring in outside companies that specialize in sucking the government out of their money to lead these type of projects.

^ That thought actually crossed my mind.  I was thinking about what outside agency approached DOD with this, and will they get the contract to "reclassify" everything.

And as good of a job as the contractor scum might do, no one wastes the government's money better than the government itself.
