Well I have just about completed my joining of CAP, the commander sent in my papers this week. And now waiting for everything to clear. Looking forwards to being able to help out and be part of CAP.
I had been attending meetings at another CAP unit for a while in PA to see about joining then the commander of that unit said that this unit I am now joining was just starting up and they really needed people and could really use my skills so I moved to the new Squadron. I'm glad the commander told me about the new unit since now I get to work with everyone from the very start of the unit.
My tasks in the new unit once everything goes through at NAT, will be working with the computers and getting the systems setup and the web page for the unit running.
Welcome to CAP, and welcome to CAPTalk.
Welcome!
Welcome welcome!
Welcome as well, where are you at, we are starting a new unit in PA as well ( 2 months old).
I am joining the Washington PA Unit 601.
Thats a good squadron there:) the Commander has become a family friend through the years.

Do they have a plane there yet?
Not yet, they are working on it, I'll probably be doing some ADY work with them to help get them off the ground, they just started something like 2 months ago, maybe three but I think thats being generous.
I was wondering how long does it normly take for papers to go through at Nats?

I usually see membership apps show up in two weeks or less. Other stuff might take a little longer.
Welcome to both CAP and CapTalk. I was a member of WV-049, Wheeling Composite Squadron- about 40 min away. They have great people there. Good luck.

We used to measure these things in geologic time, but processing has improved with the move towards electronic documents.
ok so he got my papers sent in last week so maybe not until the end of this week maybe. well I will just keep my fingers crossed and hope they get them done sometime soon.
you should at least be getting your temporary card soon
yeah but I heard I would not get sent that card until I had been added to units meber list for PA I an joining on the online site for my units members by NAT. once I have been approved I would then be sent a card in the mail.
But my commander said he has been checking the site and still no update of the number of members in his unit not even the other three he sent in.
Welcome to the family.
(Note to PA wing... He's in now, you can let the nerds out of the closet.)
Seriously, this organization is habit-forming. We should have a warning label that says that.

Once your membership is processed, it goes into eServices (http://www.capnhq.gov/). Then you should get a temporary card. Shortly thereafter (after the fingerprint check is processed), you'll get a real membership card. Then you should order one of the photo IDs as well, from eServices. Two is even better, just in case.
Next your going to tell him to buy U.S. Civil Air Patrol tapes right???

Only from ColganMart.
I just got my Temporary card in the mail today :)
Yay! The next one should follow shortly.
???
oh no it looks like I somehow ended up getting placed in the wrong squadron :/ I logged into the seniors list on https://www.capnhq.gov and the names on the unit list look like the people I met at the 603 unit before I went to join the 601.
Going to contact my commander tonight and see what happened and if he can help sort things out.
If you are in the wrong squadron, the SQ/CC should be able to do a transfer to move you back into the correct one. I did that with a cadet once. Transfers are done in eServices now so they litterally take two clicks of the mouse.
found out what happend the commander had mu sign up paper for the old Squadron that he was going to white out the old unit numbers info on the paper and replaced it with his unit number but he missed some of the stuff when he checked over the paper before sending it in.
I finally got my temp card yesterday, yay!
I also narrowly averted a little paperwork disaster myself: on my FBI card, the officer who filled it out for me put the wrong Squadron Charter number down on it. I told my Squadron/CC about it and hopefully he fixed it like he said. If not....bleh. I'll just have to make some more phone calls.
so if he has my CAP ID number he should be able to go into Eservices and transfere me? with out having to send the paper in by mail?

Yes, that is correct. He should be able to click on a link called membership on the right hand side of his eServices window. Then choose transfers at the top. The loosing cc does not have to do anything so the new cc should be able to do everything. Make sure he goes into commanders corner and approves the transfer after he is done. From there, you will be all set and should even get a new CAPID card in the mail.
I sent my commander the email, I'm hoping we can get this fixed fast before the other commander notices he has an unauthorized Squadron member in his unit. Want to get this fixed ASAP :-\
I could transfer you to ND Wing >:D!! Got a winter jacket and snow boots? ;D

Its no big deal, I'm attached to 603 and have been for a year or so now, it'll get sorted.
Your with 603? if Knight brings it up can you explain to him what happend?
If I see him certainly.
Just wanted to let you guys know I'm now in the right unit :) YAY
