Title: New picture on www.cap.gov
Post by: SJFedor on October 09, 2007, 05:48:22 PM
Just went over to the main website, www.cap.gov, and noticed they have a new picture on the main page that replaced the C-206, N5461X, they had up there for a while.

I like the new one a lot better, even though it has the wrong decal on the door. ;D

I like the background of the picture.  I hope they make it into a poster - doesn't bother me about the decal, wait a minute and it is bound to change.

depends if they're carved in due to fame or smushed in due to controlled flight into terrain :)

Yeah, I just noticed it about 10 minutes ago.  I like it better that the one on front of the Statue of Liberty, though.   :D

What they dont show you is the two F-16s that have intercepted the rogue CAP aircraft.....

They don't show the F-16 because that who took the picture.  When ever I take pictures of my family I am not in them unless I use the timer on the camera and then hustle into the picture.  The last time I tried that from the air the camera moved and messed up the shot. Come to think of it it messed up the camera too.

Since this blog claims to be an informative one and most of us like to learn, have a few questions for the membership.

What is the name of the national park where the faces are engraved?  What state?  Who are the men depicted?

I have been there several times and have flown over it at least once.

Probably no reason for F-16s, as I believe that it is open airspace except for the restrictions on overflying a National Park.

Just see how many of you smart folks are up on your American history.

Mt Rushmore

George Washington
Thomas Jefferson
Theodore Roosevelt
Abraham Lincoln

South Dakota.

This is subject to change after Golgan finishes his coup.

You are absolutely correct.  Now, the ones who decided not to be embarrassed because they didn't know the answers can claim total knowledge of the whole deal.

BTW: an absolutely beautiful place in the Black Hills of South Dakota.  Well worth a side trip the next time that you decide to go to Yellowstone National Park.

Hey, the CAP seal on the picture was just changed.  Look at the old one linked here and the new one on the website.  It's the new USCAP seal.

I just noticed that as well. I guess someone at National was reading one of the posts on here or another place about how the door decal was wrong.

It certainly is a sharp looking picture!

But it leaves me wondering: why would we want to publicize a photo of a CAP aircraft flying less than 2000 feet AGL above a National Park? Does CAP want visitors to the site to think that our pilots consider themselves exempt from the 2000 foot rule?

Maybe someone asked for a waiver for the photo op?

It's a guideline, not an FAR, so there would be no waiver needed. Just seems like a poor precedent to set.

Probably not. I left out the sarcasm smiley, but I know that's actually a pretty easy change. Might take me ten minutes, but Tedda might take half that time.

D'oh!  (_8(|)

Oops - I meant "photoshop" not "powerpoint".

moot point - I saw the "new pic"  reply and somehow missed the previous photoshop replies.
