Title: Members' Personal Aircraft and Vehicles
Post by: Shuman 14 on December 03, 2024, 05:09:04 PM
I wasn't sure where to put this question, but since part of it dealt with aircraft I'm posting it here. If a moderator believes it should be elsewhere, please feel free to move it.

I know that some members can and do use their personal aircraft for CAP missions, can someone give me the cliff notes of how that is authorized and/or point me to the regulation that covers it?

I also know that some members can and do use their personal vehicles (i.e. cars, vans, ATVs, etc.) for CAP missions, can someone give me the cliff notes of how that is authorized and/or point me to the regulation that covers it?

It both cases, aircraft and ground vehicles, could a member paint their plane/vehicle in CAP colors, add logos and aircraft roundels, etc. to it?

Not to drive around town in or fly to Vegas in, but solely if used for CAP duties and missions?

Thanks in advance.

Here is good

QuoteI know that some members can and do use their personal aircraft for CAP missions, can someone give me the cliff notes of how that is authorized and/or point me to the regulation that covers it?

This is generally going to be in R70-1 which deals with aircraft operations. While the use of member-owned aircraft used to be the norm 30+ years ago, it is very rare now.

QuoteI also know that some members can and do use their personal vehicles (i.e. cars, vans, ATVs, etc.) for CAP missions, can someone give me the cliff notes of how that is authorized and/or point me to the regulation that covers it?

The use of member-owned ground vehicles is far more common since not every squadron/ground team has access to a CAP vehicle. This is discussed in R77-1.

QuoteIt both cases, aircraft and ground vehicles, could a member paint their plane/vehicle in CAP colors, add logos and aircraft roundels, etc. to it?

Strictly speaking, yes, but only with written approval of the wing or region commander and only when it would be beneficial to CAP. You cannot do this on your own whenever you feel like it. Since the history of members doing this is, in my experience, 100% bad, don't expect anyone to say yes.

You can paint your private vehicle/aircraft whatever color you want to.
It's yours.

There are some FBO's and others flying retired/sold former CAP airplanes around that still have the CAP paint job on them (minus certain markings and emblems)

CAP corporate vehicles are white.

Putting a company's stickers on it is a different question, and there are regulations for that.

The more important question here is, why would you want to?
I sure as heck don't.
