Hi. :)
Sometimes it feels like my answer to this would be CAP. However, I try to accomplish a balance between family and CAP that is not easily done, as I'm sure most of you will agree. Bottom line is, I wouldn't be involved if I didn't love what I was doing.
I am very devoted to this program, and have had times where I spent more time during the week doing CAP than my actual paying job. WIWAC, I was very heavily involved and spent sometimes 90-100hrs a week doing CAP related stuff.
I believe that if you don't have enough time to spend with your family, you probably shouldn't commit yourself to CAP as much. Family first as I say.
I can tell you that I absolutely would not let this organization come between me and my wife. As much as I love CAP, I love my wife more. I guess it's a good thing she's a member too :)
For me CAP time is family time, both my wife and daughter are members...

Cheater... ;D
My wife and 4 of my 6 stepchildren are members and the youngest plans on joining as soon as she turns 12 next spring.
Ditto. Husband has grown tired of being a CAP-widower. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. He became a member this month. ;D

Congrats!!!! Hmmm...sounds like a good candidate for FINANCE! ;D
Actually, I've already made him the Safety Officer. :D :D :D
Evil one you are P.C.
::)
Need more choices up in that poll.
I'll add my two cents to the 'CAP IS family' camp...
Stepson is C/SrA, wife just joined as CSM, daughter is 10 and will join in 16 months. ;D
Are your work, home and CAP lives balanced ?
A few of us may have CAP the biggest part of our lives. Works for them. That's great.
In the year after my wife's death, CAP probably saved MY life. Every weekend, there was something that helped me not be sitting in that big, empty house that was a museum to what I didn't have anymore. I also spent too much time at work.
There have been several times in my life when CAP took a great deal of my free time....right now does not happen to be one of them....even then, I tried to keep a reasonable balance -- I've seen too many families split up over CAP.
The results of the poll so far are not a big surprise to me: pretty much what I would expect from the bunch on this blog.
I am almost retired from doing work that pays: do a little commercial flying from time to time. Volunteer with the Sheriff's SAR team, fly for AngelFlight and am active in running the OV-1 Mohawk Assn, in addition to CAP.
Everything was pretty balanced until last Nov, when I became CDO for CAWG. Now, I find myself spending 20-50 hours a week on CAP: mostly administering the CD program. I have recently had the ARCHER program dumped into my lap and that is taking on a life of its own: much to my chagrin.
Oh well, keeps me off the mt roads in the CA Sierra Nevadas and in front of this computer.
Used to be CAP, but then I had a baby.

That sounds painful. Was your wife very supportive of you? >:D
Most free time consuming was CAP as SER ITO & Webmaster in the past. I am stepping down from that job as soon as my replacement arrives.
The free time consumer is now 3rd Inf Bde ALSDF. I am organizing a communications unit that will be entirely manned by ALSDF who are licensed amateur radio operators. There is a lot of ops training in addition to the FCC licensing. The unit will be platoon size.
Regards,
Ken
The largest user of my free time is CAPTalk and CadetStuff. How come those options aren't in the poll?
I classify that as CAP related, and thus falls under CAP.
Thanks.
What if I don't have a paying job, and just surf the net when I'm not doing stuff for:
1. My sweetie
2. CAP
3. another volunteer organization
???

Thats what we call "really living" ;D
Work takes up a huge chunk of time, it even invades my life when I'm not at work (I have to carry my work phone with me 24/7). It'll be worse after I quit my job and start Nursing School. Outside of that, my time is divided pretty evenly between CAP and family / non-CAP friends.
I envy you all who's family also join CAP. I guess in some ways I'm rather selfish about my CAP time, it's the time when I can get away from work (mostly) and family, besides...it's a big enough hit to the bank account with just me in CAP :P
For me CAP fills a huge void that doesn't get filled at work, where the almighty corporate dollar is king, hence the change of career.
For all the new people.
CAP is Family!
Wife - Major
Daughter - Capt.
Oldest Son - Capt.
Youngest Son - Navy right now, want to rejoin when he gets out this summer.
CAP is and isn't family
Grandfather - CAP Ret.
Grandmother - CAP Ret.
2 Uncles - Former Cadets
Youngest Son C/Am
I also volunteer with the American Red Cross as an instructor
I have to say that mine is "CAP is family". In my home office I have a tv that my family watches (I have control of the Comcast box >:D). I spend my free time researching and study CAP with my oldest daughter, the rest of my family is watching the boob tube in the same room. My wife and two younger children support me and my oldest in what we do. My second daughter is chomping at the bit to join, as is my son (all three are approximately 2 years apart, give or take 3 weeks). Once all my children have joined, I do believe that my wife will join. That will be 5 Hobgoods. I am slowly planning the take over of CAP muwhahaha >:D
I go with none of the above. Hockey takes up most of my free time. My family is still the priority but they don't require too much time during hockey season... >:D >:D >:D
Opps, it never occured to put an 'other" on the post
