What's a ribbon I should try and go for? I'm looking for ribbons to earn that aren't just the promotion ones. I'm not big into ES...and I know the 2 years of service will be mine eventually. Any suggestions?
You should try for recruiting if you really want to.
Hmmm... earning ribbons. I don't recall that as being any sort of primary objective of the cadet program.
What I do recall is learning, and demonstrating, those things needed "to progress at their own pace through a 16-step program including aerospace education, leadership training, physical fitness and moral leadership." Ribbons are not goals in themselves. They show a level of accomplishment in specific areas, a sort of visual résumé. The goals are the knowledge and skills gained reaching the different levels.
I suggest that you concentrate on the achievements. As you progress, opportunities will come up for you to other areas of the cadet program.
If you are ribbon hunting, I recommend the following:
Recruiter Ribbon
Encampment
NCSA
If you are feeling bold, put a team together and go for NCC.
I'll jam a plug for a recruiter ribbon in here.
With a couple clasps.
Not that I'm biased or nothing.
Recruiter is my top recommendation.
Also you can do community service outside of CAP.
If you save someone's life, there's a ribbon for that.
Become your unit's primary CAC representative for a year.
The rest have all been listed other than IACE and ES-related ribbons.
Membership.
All of them.
