Title: Old member rejoining
Post by: killion1506 on March 27, 2016, 11:24:00 PM
Hello there, my name is Robert Killion, I was a member a few years ago and my schedule made it next to impossible to stay active and my membership lapsed due to my own lack of memory to keep it paid up. What all do I expect to need to come back? I know I need my CAPF 12 and other normal new member stuff, but because my membership is a couple years lapsed, what do I need to do to get back into where I was?

I was a 1LT, with GTL and ACUT etc... I know that stuff will have to be started all over again, but with regards to my grade and all, is there anything I will need to do? like will my Yeager still be good, and SLS and those kinds of courses, with they still be good or do I need to go through them again?

My membership is about 3 years lapsed.

Thank you.

Welcome back to CAP.  You will need to redo the Level 1 again.  Once that is done, grade reinstatement is up to your Commander.  The rest of your PD will still count.  ACUT is gone now and you will have to take ICUT (Introductory Communications User Training) and just need to redo the renewal GTM tasks.

I hope that helps.

Very much Rogue. Thank you. I really look forward to rejoining and getting back with my squadron. It is the squadron I grew up in and came back to after my time in the Army.

I should also note that the promotion requirements have changed.  If I recall the regs correctly, you will need to have your Level 2 complete prior to reinstatement to 1st LT, even with Commanders approval.

I had my level 2 completed. At the time I stopped attending I was waiting on time for Captain... If I remember correctly. but in my old age... 30 cough cough... my memory isn't what it use to be.

You should be good.  Just be aware that TIG for Capt is 30 months, and requires Level 3.

Vary good, I'm not interested in popping into Captain anytime soon. I want more experience in the organization as it stands and I am seeing that it has changed drastically in the past couple of years just by the threads here. I am reading through them to see what all has changed including mindset of members. And it is a LOT!

Yes, the org has changed quite a bit, not as much as it may seem, but it does need getting figured out.

The mentality of the members here on CapTalk.  <shrugs>  I guess your mileage may vary.

hahaha, I know Mileage varies greatly. I have seen many things change over the years including the way people post on here. It seems much more civilized here, and I haven't found many threads turning to uniforms and asking when ABU's are coming. Thank you CAPTalk Admin!

ABU's are likely coming.  CAP has asked for them, and the AF has authorized them.  Just waiting for the written permission to wear them.  Who knows when that will happen. DON"T go buy them yet.

I don't want to. I have never been interested in them. (Now it turns into a uniform thread...) If they wanted them to be functional as an improved uniform they should have followed the ACU form. But I digress. We don't need them IMVHO. I still like the professional look of an ironed and polished uniform. If we change to them, they should still be pressed.

Pressed, yes, but not starched.. >:(.
And you will find that they are pretty much wrinkle free right out of the dryer. About the only thing that "might" need a quick swipe from an iron are name/branch tapes.

I usually get around name tape issues by washing and drying them once before putting them on the uniform. They crimp up less that way... but again... uniform transformational threads... I'm interested in the concerns of getting back in with all the changes and getting to where I can best help my squadron and CAP as a whole.

After only a three year lapse...

Your old unit is still required to have retained your records (5 years).

eServices will have whatever was on file when you terminated.

SLS and other PD will be on file, including any PD levels you completed.  Restoration of 1st Lt will
be the subjective call of the CC, you'll be a SM until he takes action.

As mentioned Captain and higher have changed - members with no lapse get a "1-up" under the old
requirements until 2018, but with a lapse I'm pretty sure you will be in the new club.  A quick
check of the promotions module once you are active again will tell you.

The CPPT changed in those 3 years, but it is now included in the "new" Level 1.

You can wear the GTL badge, as those are permanent, however depending on where you were in your cycle
when you terminated, you might need to start over.  There was a swap-over where the renewal requirements
changed.  I know how that affected renewals with no membership lapse, but not with a lapse.

A related question.

New members are accepted at the subjective approval of the unit CC, they are required to attend meetings
and sit before a member board before their membership is accepted.

Is that / would that be the case with someone who is re-upping after a lapse? I would think so as they
are, for all intents and purposes, a "new" member.

The unit I am joining still does the interviews. I think that is a good thing even if the person has been a member of that unit. It helps that unit ensure the member hasn't gone downhill.

I used to know a Lt Killion, when I was in ARWG.

Yup, that's me. I came from INWG and now I'm back in IN, and rejoining now that my time is more available for it.

Wasn't there a Killion from INWG on here a few years ago?

Yes, that's me. I messaged a moderator about getting my old inactive account back, but haven't heard anything as of yet. I'm hoping they get back to me so I can get my old handle back.

Well, welcome back! Was it Texarkana squadron?

Yes it was. I enjoyed the squadron, and I didn't have a chance to get into anything with the wing, my time as an active member there was very short. I became a deputy and my time got pretty tight. I'm part of the retired now and I can't wait to get back to it.

Was your handle Manfredvonricthoven (sp?) by chance?
Title: Re: Old member rejoining

Yes, when I was asked earlier I put Manfred on the bottom, I guess I should have put the rest of it on there too. I'm waiting to hear back from the mods about getting it back. When I try to sign in with it it says there is no member with that name, and when I try to create a new one with that handle it says it already exists. I don't know how I would go about getting the handle back as of yet without going through the mods.

It shows you are salty and seasoned and still active.  If you have access to the email account you used, you could probably recover the password.

Humorously, your last post is the two of us arguing about discussing velcro on field uniforms.  So it must be old home week on CAPtalk!

Haha, I remember that. And I searched for it yesterday (my old handle) and found the messages and threads to see if my spelling was correct and it is, I just don't know how to go about getting it back as of yet.

And I still have those old velcro uniforms. I'll wear them after I am current again seeing as how the horror of a uniform change might be soon upon us... I shutter at the fear of it.

I definitely miss our discussions... or arguments. Whichever.
