Title: New Unit question
Post by: kcebnaes on August 22, 2015, 02:42:26 AM
Well, after over a year of learning and preparation, the time is finally here: my little town is going to home to a Flight!  That being said, once Wing approves it, how long does it take for NHQ to make things official and give the Charter Number? I asked my Group/CC but apparently this is his first new unit!

If all the paperwork is complete and correct, it shouldn't take long after the wing commander approves and the request is submitted to NHQ. It really depends on NHQ workload at the time.

Congratulations!  I always enjoy seeing our CAP growing into new areas.  :)

CAPR 20-3 section 6:

Quote6. Processing of New Charters at National Headquarters.
Upon receipt of CAPF 27 requesting a charter and a check or money order covering the charter fee, National Headquarters will issue a charter number and forward a charter certificate to the wing commander for appropriate presentation to the new unit. National Headquarters will mail complete sets of CAP regulations, necessary free manuals, and forms automatically to the new unit.

As you can see, it's been awhile since the 20-3 has been updated. National doesn't mail regs, manuals and forms anymore.

IMHE, the CAPF-27 is usually completely processed by the end of the next working day.  You'll get the big box of paper in about a week.

Big box of paper???  I thought they didn't mail anything anymore. Everything is on e-services.

Last I heard you still get some stuff like personnel file folders, Cadet Super Chart, and a few other things.
