Title: Wear of Blue Beret
Post by: Planes1234 on July 06, 2015, 11:12:57 PM
In the uniform manual it states that members can wear a blue beret if specifically authorized by wing, region, or NHQ directive.  In what kind of situation would this occur?

If the wing region or national says "for XYZ treason you can wear the beret"

For instance the Indiana Wing allows the wear of the Beret for qualified ground team members

A Wing Commander doesn't even need a reason, he or she can simply authorize it for wear within their wing by anyone who chooses to do so.

I don't know of any wing that's done that though.

Jack

Because as a cadet, it means you are in special forces.

Never understood the fascination with wearing impractical hats.

While at the same time practical hats are forbidden.

we all know this, but in the US, berets are symbolic of "elite".  Although the entire US Army decided to wear one... but still.... berets are still the symbol of "there is something special about this person", so cadets and even some seniors gravitate towards it.

I was a Marine, so it means nothing to me whatsoever.  I was raised in a world where everyone pretty well looks the same regardless of MOS or unit.  No patches, no nothing.   Jump wings or a SCUBA bubble, pilot wings... thats about all you get to set yourself apart.  Beyond that, a Scout Sniper in MARSOC looks like a tank mechanic and nobody really gives it a second thought.

Makes sense when you think about it, snipers tend to shoot at the ones that stand out...

Yeah.  There is nothing about any of them that signifies anything special.  A sniper would wear the same marksmanship badge as the tank mechanic.  A whats funny.... is that not all the snipers are Rifle Experts  ;D   The Marines have just always been very low key with the bling.    When I got out of the Marines and went to the Army Reserves i was issued a box of pins and patches and little do-dads that meant absolutely nothing to me.  I even got some ribbons to wear that I could only wear while I was with the unit.  I think they are in a box somewhere now.

Which of course is a physical impossibility.

Just make it gray, maybe put the Hap Arnold cradle in there in place of the crossed sabres.  Authorize it for Corporates only though.
