Title: Fundraising Question
Post by: FloridaCaptain on May 12, 2015, 07:27:48 PM
I am curios to know what the procedures are in different Wings for holding a fundraiser.  In Florida for example we have to get approval from Wing for so much as a car wash.  Just wondering what others do, not interested in Booster Clubs, just squadron raising funds.  Also what are the restrictions you have in your state?

Thanks

National Headquarters sets the limits, published in the regs. CAPR 173-4, Fund Raising/Donations says in page 2 that Wing Commanders have responsibility for all fund raisers.

So guess what!

Not only the Florida Wing Commander but all Wing Commanders have to approve so much as a car wash.

They may delegate but it all boils down to the Wing CC is responsible...

That's every wing as per the regulation.

As has been previously mentioned, we all have to get wing approval. In TXWG we have a special form that gets filled out in order to capture this request and the associated approval.

As for actual fundraising ideas, the biggest is Wreaths Across America. There are squadrons who make thousands of dollars each year with that one fund raiser. Car washes are another option for some, though here in west Texas we're not allowed to do charity car washes by city ordinances.

That's every wing as per the regulation.

And probably the easiest step in conducting a successful fundraiser.

Concur. Check with your Wing to see what they want, but the bottom line is that Wing CC always has to approve...they may do it through a blanket approval for all events of a certain type within a certain period, but it still comes from Wing.

"Wreaths" is always a good fundraiser, and it's such a worthy cause that I think we all ought to support it whether or not it brings in large $$$ for the squadron. Among the other things you might consider are putting together a "wish list" (i.e., ground-team ropes and helmets, STEM kits, etc.) as specific projects, and then asking local businesses if they might be willing to sponsor that particular purchase. Then give them recognition in squadron events, press releases, Facebook postings, etc.

And don't overlook the Combined Federal Campaign. CFC is the program for federal workers to designate charities for contributions, which are then withheld from their paychecks each pay period. It's a pretty painless way for federal employees to give, and it has meant a lot of money for participating charities. In Florida in 2013, CFCs raised more than $8 million:

FLORIDA $8,292,030
Northwest Florida CFC $232,794
Northeast Florida- Southeast Georgia Regional CFC   $1,418,674
Atlantic Coast CFC   $2,189,573
Okaloosa-Walton Counties CFC   $928,269
Central Florida CFC   $1,461,873
Southwest Florida CFC   $102,049
EscaRosa CFC   $573,088
Suncoast CFC   $1,385,710

A squadron has to apply each year to be part of the CFC, and then "market" to people in the area who might be willing and able to contribute. If your squadron has any parents who are military or federal employees, then it's even easier.
