Title: Getting my old ribbons approved for wear?
Post by: Holding Pattern on May 04, 2015, 09:10:52 PM
My family did some spring cleaning after finding out I rejoined CAP and found my old folder with my national cadet competition ribbon, our unit citation, and my last gained promotion. Is there anything I need to do documentation-wise to wear those ribbons I earned?

You'll need a CAPF 2, 120, or a PA to document the award. Letters from the commander for awards can also work.

PA?

I have a certificate signed by the drill team commander, squadron commander, and wing commander. Does that count?

With the appropriate documentation, all you need is a CAPF 2A to get these ribbons approved. Decorations require a CAPF 120. Documentation can include certificates, participation letters, personnel authorizations, etc. Many of these can be approved by your unit commander; some may require group or wing approval.

For grade reinstatement, you'll also need some type of documentation (unless your previous grade is recorded in eServices) and a CAPF 2. Depending on the grade, it may need to go to group (Capt), wing (Maj) or region (Lt Col) for approval.

For reinstatement of grade you also have to meet the current requirements for the grade as per CAPR 35-5 dtd Aug 14.

Seems like a CAPF 45 Member Master Record would also provide validation for prior ribbons and such.

And you know, if in the '90s as a cadet someone told me to keep a copy of my master record, I would have.  :'(

I understand. I made the same mistake in the late 80's.

OTOH, I still have mine (CAPF 66) from the '60s.  ;)

If you have a Mitchell, Earhart, or Spaatz "Special Appointment" (3-6) may be the easier method.
