Title: Is there a regulation that covers reporting OPSEC violations?
Post by: Holding Pattern on April 21, 2015, 08:11:01 PM

Hypothetically, if you came across an OPSEC violation, what CAP regulations and training cover the reporting and remediation of OPSEC violations?

FWIW, I checked here:  https://tests.capnhq.gov/opsec and got a dead link, checked here: https://capnhq.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1949/kw/opsec/session/L3RpbWUvMTQyOTY0NzEwMS9zaWQvUGpsKkxya20%3D and got more dead links.

Have you even spoken to your cc about this?  And what you percieve as a violation may  not be.

Ok, let me rephrase the question. Hypothetically, if you came across an OPSEC violation, what CAP regulations and training cover the reporting and remediation of OPSEC violations?

And again have you spoken to your CC about this?  If it is that big of a deal you want a reg then that is your first step is to notify CoC.  I guess you haven't completed OPSEC training in Eservices yet.

Respectfully, please answer my question about where the current OPSEC links are and which regulations cover reporting of OPSEC violations. Take the original question out of the equation and look at the amended one. Thank you.

http://www.capmembers.com/emergency_services/operations_support/operational-security-opsec/ (http://www.capmembers.com/emergency_services/operations_support/operational-security-opsec/)

That's the link to the training slide.

Don't know what happend to the training/test.

Do know that you need to report OPSEC violations to your chain of command.

Respectfully, you are potentially opening a can of worms you may not be willing or able to deal with.  As a member you should have completed this training and know that you must take it up the chain especially since you said its another unit.

You backed pedaled to say hypothetical and amended your question.. Talk to your cc as you have been advised to do and let them run with it..

That has been done. So with that out of the way, Which CAPR covers this specifically? FWIW, I have done the training, I just did it a good while ago, and I like to reference source materials before jumping. When I attempted to reference source materials, source materials did not exist. Hence the reason why I came here specifically: To locate source materials.

Report it and let the CoC handle it.

To answer your question....there is no CAP regulations that spells out the OPSEC steps, not mandates the training.

The mandate came from CAP-USAF for anyone who participates in Emergency Services.

The guidance of how to do OPSEC comes from the USAF AFI 10-701.

Which says....report any OPSEC violations to you your supervisor, commander or OPSEC monitor.

As for finding a reg.....to deal with something you saw/knew about in another unit.....again....report it to your chain of command and let them handle it.

Ok. As I mentioned, the issue was reported. From memory I just didn't remember any reporting mechanism, and I didn't see any CAPR data. Hence the thread. The closest thing I found was 60-2 telling people to take the OPSEC course.

Jeez, it was a remarkably straight-forward question and shouldn't have required that much grief before an answer was provided.

As an OT aside, where can I get a list of all the AF docs that are relevant to CAP? I have the CAP regs in a unified 1115 page pdf for easy searching; I'd like to set up the same thing for relevant AF docs.

If you don't mind waiting, I can put it up tonight. If you do mind waiting, download the combined zip from here:

http://www.capmembers.com/forms_publications__regulations/indexes-regulations-and-manuals-1700/ (http://www.capmembers.com/forms_publications__regulations/indexes-regulations-and-manuals-1700/)

and then download pdfsam from here:

Adware warning:
(Use 2.2.4, and note that the site now gives a warning that it may give you one ad offer during the install. I've yet to see one, but confirm what you click on the install.)

http://www.pdfsam.org/download/ (http://www.pdfsam.org/download/)

unzip the zip file into its own directory, then open pdfsam. Choose the merge option, select every pdf in that folder, then create an output file name like 'all cap regs.pdf' or something. Hit run, wait 3-30 seconds depending on your computer system and voila, instant total PDF.

After doing this I realized that I did not include the pamphlets as there wasn't a complete download zip of those available. Anyone know where one of those might be, or do I just need to download all of them?

I've created a new topic with the links in the interest of letting this one die.
